A certain other car manufacturer already offers this capability in a production car
The car on the video seems to have an additional sensor tacked on to the outside. Is that a camera or other sensor for the Mercedes "Autopilot" system? In any case full autonomy is just about 2 years or less away. A lot of people are going to be completely shocked how soon autonomous driving will be available.
I really hope Mercedes designs their cars so that the software can be updated to improve the autonomous driving capabilities of their car for the sake of Mercedes owners. It is interesting to note that when compared to the original Tesla Autopilot 1.0, the Mercedes sensor array was actually more capable and sophisticated but it was limited by the software in the car that was not designed to be updated.

Would be nice when this is available in a production car you can buy so you can pull up to your home and the car will open the garage door, park itself, and then close the garage door.

Think about that one for a sec.

Just a bogus marketing ploy to enhance their autonomous image in the face of stiff competition. MB can do what they demonstrate but it's not installed on their current products. Also forget any chance they will make it upgradeable in any way. You cannot even get them to update the various software systems in the car unless you report a specific identifiable problem or TSB. otherwise they won't tell you they have an improvement available. Been there, fought with them about that. After multiple visits got them to go through all the SW in the various systems and update them. Got some improvements in several semi-autonomous functions and transmission shifting
If so, will you please post the TSB or info in regards to this?
Thank you so much!

Which ones specifically, please? My car just got back from the dealership and they said the Distronic Plus was functioning as normal, but it feels jerky to me. Did they do any software updates for that?

Here's my experience, my dealer in Calgary on a trans shifting issue does:
Test drive OK
Star diagnosis quick test OK
No Codes stored
No fault found. DONE
Same complaint to my dealer in west Phoenix:
Same except
Check software
Newer software available.
Install updated software.
They did this on the trans, engine, camera, Command system, electric power steering, and who knows what else. No rev #'s etc given.
I did have a campaign #2015120005 done on the instrument cluster and 2016020003 on the SAM (signal acquisition module)
My car is a mid year 2014 so updates would be more likely.
Car is great now.

Mercedes has had slick promo concept videos of this technology for 10+ years but they need to move into production capability from concept capability. And when they do that they really need to make the software updatable over the air for the benefit of owners. You should not have to go to a dealer to receive the latest software in a modern car.
Nissan is about to release a feature that will enable their cars to scan a parking lot and park the car in an available space and this capability will be a released to production this September.

What is your point to the Nissan news. The S Class has had this feature since 2013. You clearly don't understand the capabilities of the S Class. So why are you on this W222 forum? Oh ya, to market Tesla.

Not sure how Nissan will handle this but I see no reason why the software can't read handicap signs like a human would.
I bet Mercedes is working on a similar system but they need to release it to production with the ability to update the software. Autonomous driving technology will make their way to many cars but ultimately those systems will be only as good as they can be updated over the air with software updates.

Do you know if this is for the actual firmware of the car including Distronic/lane keep assist, drivetrain and power electronics, or just the Command/media interface?
Will they also update maps over the air?
