Time for a change?

While I'm certain that MB will knock it outta the park on the next generation S-Klasse; the facelift, at least aesthetically leaves me with the feeling that MB just made changes for change sake... What do MB fans think about spending the next 4 years in the new Audi A8 L, until the 223 arrives in 2020?

I like the new A8 and am sure it will be a very competent car. Looks less boring than the current/prior A8 but that grill is huge.

The issue is the reliability of the new tech for me. I definitely wouldn't be the first to jump on the new model until it is a proven product.

Now way this auto parking will be avail in USA. They need to stop showing this as standard in these hype up videos.

Are you serious? This feature is certainly available in the US and I see no reason why Audi can't offer this from a legal or technical perspective.

Auto parking has been available in Tesla vehicles for nearly two years. In fact due to our narrow garage, what you see in the video is just about how we use this feature almost every day. We pull up to the driveway, get off the car, and the car opens the garage door, parks itself and closes the garage door. When we are ready to go somewhere we use "summon" remotely from our phone and the car is waiting for us on the driveway.

From a technical stand point, this feature really is not a big deal. I code software for a living and implementing this is almost child's play from a software perspective compared to the complexities of autonomous technology for driving on unpredictable surface streets. I'm surprised it is not standard on all Mercedes vehicles. It will be sooner or later.

Exclamation AUDI WARNING

It has been my recent experience with a brand new loaded Audi 2017 Q7, that Audi customer service pales in comparison to MB when there's an issue requiring the factory to be involved.

Apparently the emissions scandal may have caused VAG to over tighten their purse strings to a point where the customer's issues are not being resolved properly.

Considering the tech that's around, 222 facelift is a pretty weak product. If A8 is close to 222 in comfort I'll switch till the 223 is out.

True, but I felt this same way when ordering my 222 back in February '13. At least the active suspension/rear steering aren't really "new" technologies. Hopefully the Audi AI and 48volt setup can be reliable.
After 18 straight years with an S-Klasse in my garage; and the lack of appeal I have for this facelift, I think I going to jump for a few years...

NO!!! Too many legal issues going on with VW products and I just left Audi because of the dragged behind technology. MB is way ahead of the game in most every category. If you were to make a change, go BMW.

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
As so many here have done, I've gone around and around and around, and when all is said and done, despite the things I absolutely HATE about my 2015 S550--all of which continue with the 2018 model, IMO, there is no viable alternative for 2018.

After researching the Audi brand, I feel the new A8 may come with many gremlins that will take a year or two to exorcise from the car. I've also heard that Audi service is not in the same league as MB when it comes to such issues and can be very slow in addressing them properly.

As a former Lexus driver (8 new LS sedans), I would love to go back to them, but I'd have to close my eyes walking up to that horrid spindle grill. The new LS500 may set the big sedan world on its ear again, but the idiots who gave the thumbs up to the exterior design must be dropping acid on a regular basis.

The BMW just doesn't offer the comfort of the W222, nor the elegance or cachet. The Jaguar is too cramped, doesn't have the ride quality and, well, it's a Jag, so enough said. The others who would like to play in this segment, such as Genesis, Cadillac & Lincoln, always seem to be chasing a moving target and never seem to be able to catch the Germans. So, Panorama Roof, no spare, idiotic interior colors, boring exterior colors and all the other warts, IMO, the new W222 is still the best show in town.

There is potentially one more choice with the Porsche Panamera. The new model actually started looking good as compared to the old humpback and is quite spacious inside.

Yes, you're right, I forgot about that one. This is mainly because to me, it's just too much of a sports car, I still don't care for the design and for this year, you KNOW what they've added as standard equipment, right?

once again, streamliner, you and i are exactly in synch. ive been weighing the 750 v the s560 as the bimmer has such better colours especially indside as you know. but at the end of the day - the entire benzo package keeps coming out on top. and i hate that they have such a stranglehold on me. but it is what it is. we all could have a lot worse problems! so i am definitely moving forward with ordering a new 18. lunar blue w/ porcelain-black exclusive nappa. with all the yumyums.

Make sure you trust your garage door opener. In 2008, my garage door while opening after I pressed the homelink button, just decided to only open a little over 1/2 way , and I was backing out not realizing it stopped and knocked off my nav/radio antenna off the top of the car. $1000 later I always made sure my door opened all the way. It would do it about every 25 or 30 times for no apparent reason.

After looking at all these cars for 2018, and after buying Mercedes for the last 30 years, I have decided to take a break for a year or so. I need something completely new.

I ordered a 2018 Black Label Lincoln Continental. Chroma Elite Copper with the Thoroughbred interior. I know this is drastic, but it's only a year or so, and I am supporting my country by ordering an American made car.

I was shocked at how nice this car is given the cost of the car. Of course, it's not a Mercedes, but I loved the color combination, and it's only for a year or so.

I thought I felt an EARTHQUAKE coming from up north, now I know why! This news will send a shockwave through this board.

We have one of those Lincoln "showrooms" at the Fashion Island shopping center here in Newport Beach. They always have a new Continental parked right out front. We are at the center about once a week and every time I look to see if they have the Copper colored car there, as they rotate the colors. I just LOVE that color combination! I like some of the other colors as well. Why MB can't get innovative with their color choices is beyond me. Anyway, when is your car due to be delivered? I hope you will post many photos here, along with a good review, once you have driven it a bit. Congratulations on making a gutsy change. Can't wait to see/hear about it!

Thanks Streamliner. I am a frequent visitor to Montage Laguna and the last time I was there, I did visit the Lincoln Experience Center in Newport. They were very nice and I got a chance to drive the cars from there. Like I said, not my S class, but I was amazed at the fit and finish of the car, and how nicely it drove. They also have done a decent job on the electronics. I was on the fence until I was visiting my daughter in Florida, and saw the Chroma Elite Copper in a showroom there. It was gorgeous, so I took the leap.

Ford will schedule the cars for production within the next couple of weeks, so I will no more after that. I suspect we are talking late September/October time frame but not sure. It will only take a few days to get here from Michigan, not 35.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will be sure to post pictures when I get the car.
