A/C sour smell
Anyone experiencing a sour smell from your A/C system right when you turn on the car? Goes away after few minutes, but it's smells really bad. How to get rid of this smell?

Periodically on all my cars including 2014 Benz, 2014 Acura and 2016 bmw( have it during hot humid times
need to Use lubegard ac cleaner and then replace interior filters
have dealer do it... about $150-200
some claim you can spray clean linen Lysol in ac intake vent but I don't recommend this
it just masks the issue
you can also try running the ac on max hot for 30 minutes and see if that kills it for good ... that costs $0

Thank you Peter. I am curious if I can access the evaporator core when I replace the pollen filter to inject this cleaner.

This is what I do and it works. It's been a hot summer here, and I got lazy with the AC in my car, which started giving me an odor. I'm usually one of those people that drive with the windows open, or have the ac on full blast, or the heat melting me After researching it, I learned that the evaporation and humidity difference from a hot exterior, and cold interior causes moisture to build up, which can cause bacteria and mold to grow within the ventilation system that traps condensation. Ever since learning this, I've gotten into the habit of running the AC on full heat a few minutes before arriving at any destination while my windows are open. This dries up the air and vents. I've never head the issue again.
