Opinions on a repair

Hi all,

Been a while since I visited the forum. Just purchased a CPO 2015 S550 and during delivery, I noticed some scratches on the display. At some point it was obviously cleaned improperly. When I mentioned this to the dealer, they have offered to replace the display if it can't be repaired any other way. An expensive repair for them. My question is this. Should I have them go through with this since this would be an extensive repair that I assume means removing the dashboard and countless connections in a non factory controlled environment. Every thing works fine now. I am worried that may not be the case after the repair. Should I live with the scratches? Does anyone with a dealer connection have any insight into this s kind of a repair? I have a lot of confidence in the dealer and have lots of positive experience with them. Just not sure what to do here.

Thanks for the input

Have them replace it. There is no easy way to repair a screen surface and it is very visible part of the car...
Just like a TV screen.

Are you sure they have to remove the dash for this? They may not.

I really don't know actually. They said that it was about 5 hours of labor to do the replacement. I am really on the fence on this. The scratches are minor but they are there. If the repair requires a lot of disassembly, I am concerned about introducing rattles, connectivity issues, etc. otherwise I really love the car so far.

Here's a video of what they have to do to replace the screen. I would let them do it. It doesn't look too complicated; hell, I've considered doing it myself to install one of those 3D Touch screens that I've seen on YouTube... I doubt I will but I would like iPhone mirroring.

Wow, that's a whole lot easier than I would have guessed. I suspect the five hours of labor have to do with reprogramming the new device to communicate with the rest of the system. I know a map update takes hours. Thanks for sending this. I feel a whole lot better about having the screen replaced now. This forum is awesome.

I didn't think the dash needed to be removed (hence my previous post) and glad to see that's the case.

Can you take a picture of the scratched part? If it were me I'd probably live with it to avoid the 'dealer'.

Good luck

Unfortunately I did not get a chance to take photos. After watching the video about replacing the screen I felt a whole lot better about the replacement. Dealer wanted an opportunity to "repair" the scratches but ultimately opted to replace the whole thing. No arguing or fussing. I have to say that every thing I picked on about this care is being either replaced or corrected. The dealer has been great.
