Genesis G90
Yesterday, at Fashion Island, an outdoor mall here in Newport Beach, Genesis had their vehicles on display. I must say that their big G90 is impressive and quite lovely. It looks SO much better in person than on their website. I sat in the car and the interior is really VERY nice. The trunk is massive, with what appears to be room to house a full size spare under the trunk floor (they had special batteries in there to power the car while on display). I have not driven one yet, but received an offer in the mail the other day, saying that they would bring a Genesis of my choice to my home for a test drive. I’m going to do it, just because I like driving new cars and this new G90 is quite intriguing. I’ll post my review of the drive here, but I’m prepared to be disappointed with a car that has nothing like an MBC suspension.
Anyway, as we drove home yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice the little 3-pointed star on top of my hood, sort of reaffirming the feeling of security I get from driving MB cars. I’ll probably never switch, but every now and then, the things that really irritate me about my W222 (no, I won’t list them Wolf)—things that would be so simple for MB to offer differently as options, get me thinking of a change. Even though I’ve had an MB in the garage for most all of the past 40 years (mostly SL’s), I did have eight new Lexus LS sedans for my daily drivers for many years, so who knows? Let’s see if the Genesis can captivate me. Like Lovin’, I’d like a change as well. I’d like that change to have a little star on the hood, but we’ll see. Maybe I’ll keep my 2015, maybe I’ll get the 2018 I have on order, but maybe I’ll make a change. It’s nice to have options.

Give it a try. It is a well rated car but unlike the early Lexus days where you got same/more for less, the Genesis is somewhat less for less. I looked at it; not bad at all just not up to par for my taste.
While the 2018 S560 is most the likely candidate I am also playing around with a number of other options, primarily because I am still holding out for an upcoming EV. And that should happen before the next lease cycle ends. The Mission-e and/or Audi EV SUV for example.
Convertibles will continue to be MB; nobody builds better ones in terms of safety and practicality, no matter the price. But for other cars I am completely open. I wanted to sign up for the new Porsche Passport program but that is only piloted in Atlanta. Cool concept though
If I don't get the right deal for a S560 when I need it, I might also check on a discounted buy-out to bridge for an EV. I only have 16k miles on the car and it's like new...

We received that same fancy black invitation for the test drive. In our case my wife is livid because she still does not have a delivery date for her new E63S. It has been in Long Beach for over 3 weeks. So she was tempted but decided not to do the Genesis test drive.

Always found the Equus a nice place to sit at the car shows (second to the S class) but never drove one. But I suspect you are going to be disappointed. The only reason to look at a car like that is to save money (which I wholly support) but driving an S class is about everything being right and nobody has perfected chassis like the S class. If you were moving up from a less vehicle then it might work. It's highly unlikely that you will be willing to settle for it.

Ah, but that’s not so, at least in my case. If I could have my S Class the way I want it, my eye would not be wandering. If I could have it without a glass roof, but with room to store a full size—or even a compact spare, I’d be very happy.

I predict you'll be riding in an S-Class a year from now.

I also sat in this car at the NY Auto Show. I would like room for a spare tire. I might be wrong but I think the car comes with a 10 year warranty. Also i think it sells for less than 90K, They called and offered to deliver the car to All st so I could drive it. It is a nice car no doubt, better than a Lexus but I am not ready to switch. (also the sales person said the car was slightly under powered)

Well, today was the day! A new 2018 Genesis G90 V8 Ultimate was brought to my home by two very nice young ladies. They gave me a tour of the car and then we headed out on a 30 minute test drive.
As mentioned previously, I found the car to be quite attractive, both inside and out. It drove very nicely and the seats were quite comfortable. On smooth roads the ride was excellent. The suspension soaked up fairly large bumps and dips nicely. However, when we hit a stretch of uneven pavement, the car was sort of lightly bouncing and undulating down the road, which I found to be quite unpleasant. There is no wood steering wheel or massaging seats, two things that I felt should definitely have been present on a car that is trying so hard to compete in the luxury segment. The stop & go cruise control worked well, but not as nicely as the Distronic in my car.
All in all, it is an amazing car for the price. I would definitely take the G90 over the Lincoln Continental I test drove several months ago. It just feels like so much more car. But, despite what I feel are disappointing shortcomings with the W222, it still comes out on top in the most important areas, so it would appear that I will remain an MB driver for at least a few more years, if not forever.

Prediction fulfilled. I wish I could predict the stock market this easily.
