Marks on inside lens of headlights

I notice marks inside the backside of the headlight lens, looks like four fingers scraped down on the inside part of the lens. Can only notice it with the headlights on. Hopefully this is something the warrantee will take care of.

If it's clearly fingermarks on the inside there should be no problem....condensation etc. can be considered normal, but certainly not some guys greasy fingerprints lol

Same with mine. Condensation on the inside of the headlight cover. 3-4 straight lines directly in front of the bulb. looks horrible.

I had something similar on my 2011 E550 but the lines were a distinct “V” pattern. I had the first set of headlights replaced under warranty as the lense was etched on the inside. The new ones lasted less that a year before the “V” reappeared so i gave up on it. There is a long thread on the W212 forum about it.

I didn’t expect to see this on the MB flagship ~7 years later but inspected my lights this evening and can see the same etching but a different configuration. Anyone taken theirs into the dealer to see what they had to say?

Next time I'm at the dealer for a Oil Change I'll show them, the car is still under warrantee for the next couple of years. It almost looks like 4 fingers on the inside of the Lens. It makes me wonder if this was maybe in an accident before I got it and they replace the head lights and to their fingers on the inside of the lens? There were no accidents showing on the Carfax, but I guess that does no mean much. Does not look that good when looking at the headlights at night with them on, reason I was checking for this is because I use to have a 2012 E63 AMG wagon and as was said it have V's burned into the inside of the headlights. The dealer refused to do anything about it, but it really was not all that bad. This S550 does not appear to have the V's at least. Just looks like greasy fingers, lol.

Although I don't think hand/fingerprints inside headlights were done purposely, it reminded me of something that was shared years ago. Back in the early 90's I became acquainted with one of MB's Senior Field Tech Specialist's...he was an older German gent and we got alone quite well. During one of my meetings with him, the W140's were just making their way into customers hands, and there was a very annoying metallic rattle deep in the dashboard area confounding techs, and MB was reluctant to start completely disassembling the dash/areas of these new big beasts (there was lots of new for the time, electronics etc.).. Turns out right around the time of the US release, the MB/autoworkers were not doing well with the their compensation requests so they found a way to get even/get everyone's attention. After mounting customer complaints of a serious metallic rattles in their new state-of-the-art flagship, MB had selected certain vehicle's dash/area's be completely disassembled, and guess what they found? Aluminum cans partially filled with nuts and bolts. In the end, the workers got their requests met, the W140's were laden with issues from being too heavy for the NO spec Michelin's which caused severe flat spotting even after the car was only parked for a few hours under certain conditions, electronic gremlins etc., and was never found to be a very elegant looking car. I always equated their commanding presence/appearance and stature on the road to MK ll Tiger Tanks (a complement lol). I luv'd the double insulated glass (I recall it being a first for a standard production MB at the time) and once the tires were uprated/replaced the 140 exhibited that ultra smooth MB glide as it went down the road. Thought some here might appreciate this bit of MB trivia. Wonder if anyone ever wrote a book that worked on the line for any of the major brands? The stories would be quite interesting.

Ha, interesting story. I loved the W140's and the R129's that accompanied them. I always notice(ed) them on the road, strong presence. I still see plenty of W126's, a testament to that time.

It's plastic sweat, can be cured with PN 005-989-19-71 and the magic of magnetism and good gynecology skills.

I'm not a gynecologist, but I'll be happy to take a look. And I also had a good night's rest at a Holiday Inn Express.
