EXPANDABLE/COLLAPSIBLE TIRE

Hey guys. I am pretty sure I'm not the only one who has this problem with the spare tire. I have an s63 W222 SEDAN 2016 and I have a problem with the spare tire. My car is equipped with 19 inch AMG Alloy rims with a tire size of 255/45R19 non runflats and I tried fitting a W221 rim just to see if it might fit but these AMG calipers are too big. My car is equipped with the whole tire inflation compressor and kit but I live in East Africa and the roads here are not of the best condition so there is a high chance of my tire bursting and if I am travelling long distances it is hard to find a tire dealer. These rims and tires are not available where I am so I checked online and found a 19 inch Collapsible/ Expandable tire for an ML 63 on GUMTREE in SOUTH AFRICA. I just wanted to know if the collapsible tire can fit my car and if there are collapsible tires available in USA/UK for the 2016 S63 AMG SEDAN. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Ah yes, yet another example of the “brilliant” decision by M.B. to eliminate the spare wheel/tire from their passenger cars in general and their flagship W222 sedans in particular. It is bad enough that the vast majority of us have to put up with this madness in large metro areas in the U.S., but can you even imagine the absolute peril this poor chap is forced to put himself and his passengers in, where he lives? Someone at M.B. in Germany needs to be fired and this idiotic idea of no spare needs to be changed—NOW!

I suggest that you buy it and see if it works. If it works you are golden and if it does not work you loos a little money. Do you have a part number... I can check with a friend who drives a S63

Hey thanks for the response, I checked the part number but unfortunately the tire is too thick. If it isn't a hassle could you please check if a collapsible/inflatable tire is available for my car where you are? I would very much appreciate that and it would save me a lot. If not possible don't worry about it. P.S The tire size is 255/45ZR19. Thank you.

Best bet is to try a benz dealer to see if one exists. I have a reg mini spare from a w221 but to be honest i havent even checked if it fits. Your big issue is the huge brake calipers.

expandable spare tire

I have driven mercedes for nearly 50 years. Run Flats are nothing more than a means of MB saving money. The ride doesn't compare to traditional tires and we are all exposed to ill experiences with a run flat FLAT and the safety concerns being stuck without a spare. Corporate MB has been of NO HELP in resolving this dilemma. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF A COLLAPSIBLE DONUT SPARE IS AVAILABLE FOR THE S550?

What I have been doing and what I strongly suggest everybody here do, is to COMPLAIN about this idiocy EVERY time you interact with ANYONE employed by M.B. From salespeople to service advisors to people you talk to at MBUSA or even MNFS. Make sure they know, in no uncertain terms how unhappy you are about the lack of a spare. They don’t want to provide one, that’s fine, but AT THE VERY LEAST, give us the frigging space to put our own, should we decide we need one.

THE very worst part of this mess is the way M.B. went out of their way to eliminate the spare storage space, and to actually, purposely PREVENT us from having our own spare in a proper, unobtrusive space. My W221 compact spare sits on top of the trunk floor in my 2015 and every time I open the trunk I am reminded of this “Big Brother” B.S. they are employing to manipulate us and I just hate it. Don’t you all?

You can try the following part number A222 400 07 00.
This should be the correct spare tyre for the car.

Please let us know how you get along.
