To extend the CPO warranty or not?
Hi all,
I have a feeling I know what the general consensus will be, but I’ll try it anyway.
I have a CPO 2015 S550 with all the standard options plus hud, mbc and 3D sound. Stickered around $123k. I bought it with 22k miles and it’s less than 26k now after one year of ownership. It’s always garaged and it’s used for short trips around town. No commuting as I am retired.
In the year I’ve owned, I’ve put less than 4,000 miles on it. And that included a 1000 mile trip that I probably won’t do again.
The extended MBZ CPO warranty is $3550.00 for an additional 2 years ( bringing the total to 7). Do you think it’s worth it? Do you think I will have that much cost in repairs on a car that will probably only be driven about 3k miles a year? I think you can get a lot fixed for $3550.00, especially if you take it to an independent shop.
Thoughts, opinions and experiences are much appreciated and welcomed.
Thank you so much in advance!
Steve

2010 E350 Luxury Sedan, Engine 272 (V6)
I have owned a lot of cars and never purchased an extended warranty-with no regrets. BUT, I did on my 2010 E350 and thankful for it. I drive about 2-3,000 miles per year.
There are so many things that go wrong on M-B's and cost so much to repair. Most have nothing to do with mileage.
If you do it, just make sure you make them check out everything possible. Also, you should periodically make sure all the features are working as some may have failed that you seldom use.
Remember, the dealership makes money off repairs whether you pay or M-B pays.

$3550 for 2years worth of peace of mind for a retired individual is definitely worth it in my opinion. I have come to learn whether a mercedes is driven a lot or not, things can still go bad and on average each thing that goes bad will be over $1000.
I vote you get it

I have a 2010 E3504matic that I bought a year and a half ago with 93k miles. It has 111000 now. The only thing outside of oil changes was a thermostat replacement that I did myself. Now having said that I think that it is no brainer for you to extend the warranty. $1800/year for bounding your exposure to repair bills is pretty cheap insurance on that car. I think that they are pretty reliable but one thing goes wrong in two years and you will be made whole.

I had the same thoughts on my last w221 s550 also cpo, paid the 3600 to extend and a few weeks later the rear air shocks failed. Needless to say that paid that for the most part.

I’d prefer it if you’d just ask him yourself as every situation is different. It’s as easy as sending him an email with the vin and mileage. jjackson@TafelMotors.com

That is, the companies that offer such a warranty are offering it with the notion they will make a profit on you--at least statistically.

If the reason to buy an extended warranty is peace of mind--that is OK--just don't buy one expecting to have spent less total on the car at the end of its life with you.
