It is very disappointing indeed. You are in CA and they have the strongest lemon laws in the country. I suggest to have a quick chat with a lawyer. Also have other MB dealers check out the car as there is no reason to accept this subjective statement ("within specifications" is subjective unless they can provide proof of their test and measurement methodology). This is essentially a denial of service.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the input and comments. I have to say you are a great bunch of folks. Helps to know there are people who want to be helpful and contribute to finding a solution on this and other issues. I’m taking a step back for now and moving the trickle charger to the 560 from my SL. No sense being annoyed every time I drive it. This routine lease replacement has turned into an all consuming headache. Once the emotion fades, I’ll regroup.
Thanks again.

Wise man. If other 560's can be made quiet so can yours.

Thanks. I sat in my passenger seat while a friend drove my car - muted exterior noise. Just like the drivers seat in my 2015 S550.
I still reflexively keep tugging up on the drivers window switch. So weird. They must know what’s causing this problem and it must be a very big deal to correct - like replacing the entire pano roof.

Very eager to to hear how your service visit goes!

Realities of quality of any mfr...

Have had >10 new 65s over past 10yrs: perhaps world's safest, most enjoyable driver's cars, but had 2-3 of these lemoned for various ECU failures: still drive a (flawless) '17 65 Coupe while waiting for MY19 65 Coupe to arrive

Wouldn't ever get a 560 w/its lame tires/brakes vs active safety or 63 w/its fail-prone MCT or crap steel brakes

Only other car I'd get (if 65 w/CCB didn't exist) is 911TurboS Coupe.....~30% cheaper vs 65 (lease pmts)....but awful passive safety vs latest 65, so realistically far costlier than 65 (can't ever buy back one's lost health/life vs car crash forces)

Safety (esp active&passive) & quality (what's opportunity cost of one's time to solve glitches/lemon issues?) only goes downhill from MB/P: no real data given most lim produc cars aren't crash-tested and any tests are vs artificial, limited scenarios; mfrs know their warranty claims costs but don't need to compensate wealthy consumers for their (perhaps astronomic) opportunity costs; thus, need to place one's own bets vs uncertainties, as vs anything critical in life....

One's relationship w/dealer helps mitigate issues; both SF/SV&BevHills have great MB/P dealers convenient to repeat 65/991TTS buyers, but quality/lemon issues are inevitable with any car (or any other thing), no matter cost

Since you appear to live in Southern CA, I must ask you: Just WHERE and HOW do you drive, to the point where you would find the brakes on the S560 to be “lame?”

Interesting post. Which of these dealerships and which sale rep did you use when you ordered your new 2019 S65 Coupe? I'm re-evaluating....

Just spit-balling here, but wouldn’t you think it prudent to NOT order a car, just buy one already built so you can take an extended test drive to make sure there are no noise/any other issues? I am sure you can find a car very close-or exactly to your specs without having to travel outside of California.

WSH - another question. When you say "but had 2-3 of these lemoned for various ECU failures" - are you saying you filed a suit under the CA Lemon Law and had the defective cars replaced?

I'm hoping Audi, BMW, even Bentley will have improved safety & autonomous tech available when this lease terminates in 3 years. Time for me to move on.

Delta, curious how your service visit went? Any insights on the noise penetration?

i brought it in on the 10th and they did find a small leak in the weather stripping. I’m like great and I bring it home that night. the service dealer was in Queens and rush hour. So the next morning I get in my car to go to work and what not the noise was even worse and this time my wife now hears it from the passenger side... so I’m bringing it back in. I did speak to the general sales manager and she heard that it could very well be the peice that ties the sunroof to the air it’s self.

Sorry to hear this but very interesting. Hopefully they will resolve your issue. Is she saying it might be the pano roof interface?
Id love to speak with her. Since more 2018 S Class cars are now in service maybe any design defects will become more obvious.

They didn’t say the pano roof exactly but the piece that contacts the glass to the body possibly. Like you said hopefully not that other people have 18s we’ll see other people with it or a fix. My car was orders exactly how I want it and took long enough to get. I really don’t want another one and what’s the sense anther won’t have the problem either.

Yes, exactly right. This is the car I spec'd out and waited to be delivered. We'll see what unfolds. It truly seems there is some type of design flaw / fitment issue that causes some cars to allow more exterior sound entering than others.

just spoke to the dealer. They believe it was the roof and think air was getting in from the left front corner. They re adjusted the roof ( tightened and lowered it ). I get the car back Monday night - Tuesday morning when I return from a trip and will let you know. Hoping this works.

Hi - checking back in with you to see if the roof adjustment helped resolve the noise problem. Hope so. IF so, please provide some details on what they did so I can advise my dealer.

many thanks!

Unfortunately it didn’t really help but it doesn’t do it as much as it did before. It’s seems to be only when a car passes me in the left lane now if I’m in the middle or right. What the Forman did tell is that the roof on the panarama doesn’t always come in perfectly adjusted. He also said he feels the insulation where the roof meets the body isn’t as good as it use to be which is a shame. We test drove a s450 and a 2017 s550. As the 450 was alittle better then mine , its not nearly as quiete as the s550. This really makes me believe it’s sometbing with the 2018 model.

Most reviews and posters here say that the 2018 S-Class S450 and S560 are extremely quiet. So, I'm not so certain that the 2018 is not as quiet as the 2017. If there is a noise problem with the 2018, I wonder if this is corrected for the 2019 model.

i know this is 3 months old, but I’m curious, what or how much were you able to negotiate? Like real money or percentages, or dealership throw ins like oil changes and the like? I take it you were what, $500 in to order, and if you balked they would have your car and $500, right?
I never considered renegotiating after ordering, though with BMW I would get the advantages of any new incentives during the lag to delivery. But no renegotiating.
thanks.

In California, they cannot keep your deposit $$$ if you renig on the deal. Must be returned to you and dealer is stuck with the vehicle.
