WHATEVER the reason, it was a bad move. The W222 trunk is much smaller, at least it feels much smaller than the W221 trunk. They knew that, but they still proceeded to make it smaller. I agree, Wolf, the S Class trunks have always been “adequate”.........until now.
First link they are talking about the w221 and 2nd link the 2014 w222. Every S always has a huge trunk, at least going back to 1978. I grew up with these cars and remember articles even saying they could hold multiple bodies

I guess the definition of huge is in the eye of the beholder
Think Lincoln Town Car at 20-22 cubic feet... Neither our W126’s or W140 had large trunks.
Look at all the room I have! Of course this is a 2015, but it will be even smaller in the '18 or I guess that will be a '19 with the bigger battery. Also I have the rear pwr seats.
btw What is the purpose of those 2 holes in the back wall?

I wonder WTF Asia/Europe is going to do about this. S Classes are used as limos and their ability to swallow up LARGE amounts of suitcases is why the S class is the go to luxury limo there. WTF is MB thinking?!!!!!

What they are thinking—as they have for many years—is that THEY KNOW what is best for you, for me and for everyone on the planet and HOW DARE we second guess their decisions, no matter how stupid, ridiculous or asinine they may be. In short, in several instances, they have their head up their *** and they take great offense when we try to point that out.
Dealer order guide puts W222 trunk at 12.3 cu ft, compared to 13 cu ft for a Corolla, or 16.7 cu ft for a 2018 Accord.
Get ready for this. 2015 C class, 12.6-cubic-foot trunk vs refreshed S class 12.3. 2015 BMW 3 Series' 13 cubic feet and the 2015 Audi A4's 12.4 cubic. All bigger than the 2018+ S class.

*Also for compairison, the 2015-2016 S550e (plug in hybrid model) has 12.2 cubic feet, which makes senses, since it has a ton of electronic motors and batteries added.

Yup. I had already been toying with the idea of replacing my 2015 S550 with a 2019 CLS or AMG GT 4-door, and this whole trunk issue would be another reason, albeit a minor one, to move that way. CLS at least has split-folding seats though I don't know the cubes at this point.
I agree with Stream on feeling the pains of a smaller trunk with his spare in it and understand his rationale. To me, it's a bit of a non-issue because our trunk has never been filled up for the last 15 years or so. We travel lighter than we used to for those trips to/from the airport so even then no problem.
This stuff pales in comparison to not having Bluetooth-based CarPlay. Hate to have to pull out my phone and plug-in
I was aware of loosing trunk space when i ordered reclining seats, but this is crazy.
Same trunk since 2014 but i wonder why MB didn’t bother to use the extra space below to place the subwoofer for the Burmester 3D. Without the spare there is plenty of room.

Are you sure that's the measurements without power seats, cool box and 3D stereo? MBUSA website says 16.3 in the specs, but 18.7 when you do a car comparison.
So what is the trunk space on the base 2018 S450/560? Is it 19cf or is it 16cf?
On the specs, it says that the trunk space is 18.7 CF for the 2018 S450. I imagine this is with standard seats in the rear. I am seriously considering selling my 2014 S550 and purchasing the 2018 S450 with all the high tech packages and options except for the magic body control and no executive rear seating. I couldn't care less about that. The only major difference between the S560 and the S450 is the engine size. I don't need to have gazillions of horsepower. 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds is fast and powerful enough for me. The reviews on the S450 are terrific and the cost is quite a few $thousand less.
I think the specs for 2018 aren't correct. Many websites are also still reporting things incorrectly. I would go IN PERSON to verify. The power rear seat option only loses 4" on a 2018 I think,.

The "Warmth & Comfort" Pkg includes Power Rear seats.
Yes. This is where I'm confused. The 2018 brochure only has footnote 19 (reduced trunk space) on the Rear Seat Pkg, but not on Warmth & Comfort or Power Rear Seats. I'm going to find another dealer with a car without Warmth & Comfort to see if the measurement is any different.
