Not quite, I wont drive an S class without the factory warranty. what is laughable is leasing an S class for 60K+ to drive it for 3 years and have nothing at the end. I picked up my 3 year old example with 17K miles and an MSRP of 120K for sub 60k and it will be worth something in 3 years when it falls off warranty and I sell it. Mine still looks and smells new at half the cost.
Some people buy new, some with cash, some finance, some buy used and some lease. They are no better or worse choices; they simply fit people lifestyles or personal priorities.
These are very nice and safe cars to drive whichever way the car was was procured

It’s starting to get idiotic when people try to keep pushing their personal preference as somewhat be the most logical or reasonable choice.

OP started this thread by essentially telling people it is freaking crazy to pay $200 for wiper blades. This forum consists of people with different net worths. OP’s comments in the face of S Class owners with multi million dollar portfolios is ridiculous whereas if one wants to or is “forced to”, based on financial circumstances, buy used that is ok.
OP should not insult people different from him. Some people may not want to buy $200 wiper blades or a new S Class but might want to buy a used S Class. Either is ok but OP is trying to push his thoughts like everyone should be the same as him. Not so.

As a CPA and financial advisor many people buy and lease for different reasons. Your comments are ridiculous and are opionions. Just because you have an opinion does not mean everyone thinks like you. There are many good reasons for buying (cash or finance) or leasing—one size does not fit all.

Depending on where you live and what your employment conditions are like, there are tax consequences/advantages for both leasing and financing. It's truly not one size fits all here. I'm not only talking about deducting leasing costs or financing interest costs, but also things like capital cost allowance/e.g. depreciation etc when owning a car. 5,000 shades of grey, to be precise.

Take it easy folks. Sorry if I offended anyone, that was not my intention. Just wanted to gripe about 200 wiper blades.

I can’t recall which W222 member it was here, but he got into a pretty severe accident, which totaled his car, while he walked away a bit shaken up, but pretty much unscathed. I would imagine that he feels as though he made out like a bandit on his lease or purchase, as he went right back and got another new one. Sounds to me like he really came out a winner.

I do not agree with this statement. Buying a car is not an investment.
You give your money, and get a car. For me this car is what i want, and no other car will do, and i am happy about it, and think this is the best car money can buy.
Other people will look for other things. If my personal situation was different and i wanted something sensible, i would buy a used Toyota, for low cost ownership, and i would tell others to do the same. Use the money you save to invest. Then buy a mercedes if you want to. But to say that you lose when buying mercedes is wrong. You get a car. If it is worth it for you, that depends on a lot of things.

Yes that was me. A poor driver ran me off an interstate highway and I hit a tree at about 60mph with a '14 S550 4matic. I won because I am alive to tell about it. Walked away without a scratch. And purchased a new '16 S550 4matic. Then again I have purchased S Class cars for 20 years or so. I would have hated to hit that tree at 60 mph with another vehicle. Might not be alive.
Sorry, I had to just troll a bit, for fun, and in jest

I should add—I hope the E class would have protected me as well—My son drives an E Class and I put faith in that car as well that he is safe every time he gets into that car. Yes there are many safe cars. I own a Ford F-150 pickup as well for hauling things—Lets just say I am glad I did not hit the tree with the pickup truck.

Around 60K for a three year lease with around 12K miles a year I think. This assumes a 120K msrp or somewhere close to that. No judgment though as any car is a depreciating asset, it just depends on how fast you want to spend money.

If you think $200 for wiper blades is bad, try $400 to replace a single headlamp bulb... That's how much it cost on my old Infiniti. They only charged me ~$110 for the bulb, which was available at the auto parts place for ~$95 or so... BUT the labor... 3+ hours. I was in shock when they told me the price and broke out my copy of the shop manual on my laptop. About 5 minutes later I walked into the service advisor's office and plunked my credit card on her desk. You had to disassemble much of the front of the car (including AC refrigerant lines) to change the damn bulb.

when the time comes i don't WANT to pay $200, or $140 for wiper blades. BUT, i love the idea of magic vision. heated blades, etc. - so that's the cost of maintaining those features.
This is my first benz - and i was going to order a loaded E400 mid march - instead the CPO event came out, i checked it out, and once i saw the prices on the CPO S's, then test drove a 2015 - at the dealership i then sat in a new E300 and i no longer wanted it - felt like a step down (i know, some newer tech, etc.).
I SCOURED the CPOs multiple times until i found my current baby, the 2016 - i had to pay to ship from Oregon to New Jersey to get the features i wanted (night view assist, heads up, and heated windshield - though not sure the heating part is working) - anyway, i saved about $40k from new, and have the extended warranty until October 2022.
My accountant feels i can deduct the entirety of the car over 3 years. that's sweet.
I put a chunk down, but my payments are less than I'd have paid for the loaded E400.
Ii'd like the newer tech of the 2018 - but i also like more money in my pocket better.
So, there are pros and cons of new and used.
I WILL sell the car before the warranty is up, or it will be totaled first, stolen, who knows? I won't own this beast out of warranty, and i feel it will sell for more within warranty.
Then, around August 2022 or so, i'll decide - another CPO? new? another brand?
it's nice to have options.
I DO feel that other than an accident with a behemoth SUV, i'm coming out on top. the car is massive - with a lot of mass. in an accident you want mass on your side.
...and that's about all i have to say about that

Maybe I missed it, but has nobody mentioned buying your MB OEM blades (PN 2228201145) at FCP Euro? At $192.69, maybe a bit more than the prices quoted by konigstiger in an earlier post, BUT with free replacements forever, the price quickly drops. When you order your second set for $0, the price of each set has just changed to $96.34; your third set reduces the cost to $64.23 etc. etc.
