What exactly is a broker? Third party insurance company?
‘I’m a second owner who purchased a CPO 2015 and was able to extend the warranty. Wonder if it is only on CPO cars.

Sorry, I meant I picked the car up from a broker. Clean carfax and all maint done. I guess if MB does not want my money I can get a third party one. Contemplating going without as well.

Try Cassandra Castro ccastro@iamilwaukee.com as I just bought one, and she was able to beat Jeff - but both were able to do much better than anyone else.

Going naked, no coverage. 3rd party warranties have too many weasel words in the contracts and I don't want the hassle. I have a good local shop that works exclusively on Merc's so I am going to take the risk. Based on my last W221 and the experience I had with it, I ended up saving about what I spent on the warranty. Hopefully the 2015 has the bugs worked out and I don't get killed with a major problem.

There is apparently not a firm rule that MB will not sell the 3 year warranty extension to a second owner. I picked up my current W222 S65 with about 2k miles on it and it was not MB certified. I owned the car for a year, had it serviced exclusively at the local MB dealer.I then asked the dealer to sell me the 3 year extension. They were able to but needed permission from MBUSA. I was told the service history they now had was critical to the positive decision.

Too many german broads
I called MBUSA and they were no help. Told me that once the car is wholesaled, which mine was it is no longer eligible for the MB ELW. Must be a new rule as I did it with my last W221 that I purchased from the same broker. I also spoke with the finance guy at the original selling dealership and he was not aware of the rule. Interestingly he also indicated that they do not sell a lot of ELW's on the W222 as it is a pretty bulletproof car at this point. I guess I will see.

I am running without one at this point. Too many weasel words in the 3rd party contracts and not worth the hassle. Car only has around 22K miles on it at this point and I will probably sell it after around 25K more miles or around 47K. Pretty ridiculous that you even have to think about a warranty on a car with less than 50K miles. I get that it is not a Honda but I feel like I am back in the 70s with an american car where you were lucky to get 70K miles out of slab of detroit steel.

How funny! 😂. Back in the 70s? I remember my 1987 300E that had an MSRP of $60,000 in 1987. I sold the car at 200,000 miles. No warranty. Just paid for repairs as they occurred. Maybe I am getting old but what happened to enjoy the car and pay for things when they need to be repaired? I have never purchased an extended warranty on an auto. The insurance/extended warranty company is making money from people that think these cars will go to 50k miles and cost an arm and a leg to repair. Yes they can be costly but it is the cost of enjoying great autos. If one can’t afford to repair the cars, maybe one should not buy the car to begin with? Ok I am an old fart! Just had to laugh at the idea that one has to get rid of a car at 50k miles to avoid the repairs.

Newer cars have more technology so anything can happen at any time. I just bought a 2018 and parktronics module went out at 20 miles on the odometer. Repairs can be expensive without warranty

So anyways. My car was a CPO 6 months ago, warranty was to expire in April of 2020. It didn't transfer to me directly because it went to a BMW dealership before I bought it outright (CPO buyer, to trade in at BMW, to me buying it from BMW). So I'm left with a warranty that expires in April of 2019. I asked this morning what they could do for me andddd.... they did the CPO transfer for free! So now I'm good until April of 2020. MB has been good to me!

Recommend warranty for S63 Amg
Okay so I just purchased my first Mercedes ever. I ended up with a S63 2015. It has 43k on and it and the warranty ended this past February. I want to purchase a warranty but I’ve been given many different opinions. The question is can I purchase one from MB directly even though it’s out of factor warranty? Second question is if I can’t buy it through MB who should I purchase it through?
Thanks

AMG cars out of warranty are super expensive to get a warranty on. You can only do 3rd party at this point and it will cost you a lot as these cars are seen as risky to insure because they are seen as performance cars that an owner could easily beat on and break something.

Options:
ask your dealer who who they like.
check your local Credit Unions....they have run all the traps already.

Horsefeathers. This is your logic, not the logic for many of us... I bought my first S63, a 2008 and was highly recommended to not own the car out of warranty without an extended warranty. The was was just out of warranty so I bought an extended warranty for about $5k or so. Within the first month of ownership it accumulated $11k in repairs! Sh*t broke right out of the gate, and I got the car from a very reputable Mercedes Dealer. The NAV, suspension stuff, other stuff I can't remember. I was SO HAPPY I bought the extended warranty! I bought it for my 2012 too a few years later, and when I bought my 2018, they said I had money left over from that warranty so they gave me a big discount on the new warranty. I got a 10 year, 100k warranty on this one and I plan to keep it for 10 years. YAY for extended warranties.

I will offer to kick anyone in the *** who is considering buying an extended warranty for HALF the price of the warranty! I will then point out that next to nothing happens to a car in the first 100000 miles that would require this rip of warranty. It is simple math and statistics that these warranty companies use to decide how they will make money off of the sucker they sell it to that is buying on the basis of fear.
Yes of course the car could blow up and you know what the world could end tomorrow. If we look at math and facts then we see that neither of these are likely to happen. Finally I agree with someones before assertion that its strange how people would buy a car without the ability to cover the cost of repairs if they do need to be done.
Even further if someone lacks the confidence in the product they are buying being reliable then why the hell are they buying it in the first place?

Let people buy them if they want, it is a wise decision given the company checks out.
