Keeping wheels clean

Stock pads have about 90% left so I do not want to change out to Akebono yet but the factory pads are dust monsters. Took the wheels off and scrubbed everything today but the question is, what are you all doing to your wheels to keep them clean? I have the 19" staggered AMG rims so you can see most of the wheel through the spokes. Does the wheel cleaner hurt the finish at all?

I hope you are not letting the dealership clean your car.

You can use Iron X to clean the wheel and it doesn't hurt the finish.

swap em now. It’s only like $100 total for front and rear akebono pads! My car had brand new pads on it when I got it and I did. Get rid of those.

i can drive 2 weeks and you can still eat off them.

or keep the stock pads and get black wheels like this:

Have them cleaned and Ceramic Coated. Keeps most of the dusting off and easy hose off to clean. Last time I checked, Akebono did not have pads for the Front & Rear....

Try these out. Have great success with them. They come with all the necessary hardware also. New Pins and Clips...

Not all dealers have horrible car washes. I ALWAYS have my vehicle washed by local dealers and have been extremely satisfied. I would NEVER take my vehicle to a regular car wash for fear of wheel damage.

Black wheels don't help the situation any. The brake dust is a different color. If anything they are harder to clean since they are satin or matte finished. I've waxed my wheels in the past to make them easier to clean.

Brake dust it much much better to have on a black wheel vs silver. The dust is horrible with mercedes pads.

I wash my own car. I don't take the car to a regular car wash. I have had horrible experiences at multiple dealership with scratches. It depends on what you expect. I expect swirl free washes.

Interesting thread for sure. I have a 2018 S63. Are there brake pads that are "dust free", mostly, that will work for my car without it squealing, driving me insane?

Thanks! I used to put them on my BMW 7 series and it really helped with brake dust. For my Porsche I was lucky enough to find one with ceramic brakes. For this new car, I took what was on the lot... and no ceramic brakes.

Guaranteed they are inducing at least a lot of micromarring into your paint. I never let the dealer wash my car unless i am already planning to do polish soon afterwards anyway.

Sonax full effect is a good wheel cleaner. Also as stated above, coat your wheels as it makes cleaning so much easier you may not even have to use a dedicated cleaner.
