Where do you mount your phone?

I use Waze for navigation and Since I don't have Android auto, I want to mount my phone in a useful spot. I tried my air vent phone holder, but the air vents move around too easy and my phone is pointed in every direction I don't want it to be. I also try setting it horizontally on the ashtray, but it slides off if I go around a corner too fast.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
These cars suck for cell phone placement. I ended up using a Weathertech phone holder that sits in one of my cupholders.

Also running Waze for nav, police detection, Amazon Unlimited streaming music, etc. Magnetic phone case + Scosche magnetic holder in the all the vehicles and prefer mounting to the left. YMMV. T

Scosche magnetic mount^^

Position a little up or down^^

used a nylon pry tool to hide cord^^

from USB port, cord tapped down under mat and up under left foot rest, then up side panel of dash.

I leave my phone in my pocket and use the navigation on the display.

Right now, I'm toying with this magnetic mount which I have on my right side 1st Air Vent (which is probably HORRIBLE), but it's working well so far..

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0GTZDN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0GTZDN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm watching this thread for better ways without obstruction of the cupholders/tray also.

I have a short hub cigarette lighter double USB jack and a 1ft lightning cable coming out of the bottom of the ashtray tucked neatly to hide the cord until I need to plug it into the phone for charging.

I have an almost identical set up with a 6” lightening cable that just comes out of the ashtray ~3” and find that if I place the phone “low and left” on the magnetic mount it doesn't move around as much. Best solution I’ve found so far and you can still use the right cup holder.

Agreed, this Weathertech Cup Phone with Extension looks cool to me. If I'd ever get one, it would be this one.

I figured out a cheap way to stop the vent from swiveling. I cut one of my business cards down into small pieces and then squeezed the trimmed pieces into 4 spots on the top and bottom of the 2nd air vent from the left and this keeps the vent from moving. The pieces folded over one time are thick enough to hold the vent in place and are not visible once inserted. I then put my phone into the cell phone holder which has the clips which slide into the vent to hold the phone in place and it's been good to go ever since Jan 2019. I only use my cell phone for GPS when traveling to new destinations and it works perfect.

Hubby is a WAZE addict and so his phone is always on when driving. It sits in one of the cup holders as we drive.

here is how I mount my phone. I never had issues to “naturally” mount my phone. 2 options:

You will need to look down and to the right for screen input's if using your phone. Prefer to keep my eye's up on the road and on the same plane as the phone.

Wedging your cell holder and blocking one your HVAC vents at the same time ?

Also a BIG Waze fan...live po-po detection, road/traffic conditons w/rerouting, fairly larger scipt, and I always run black background extending battery life.

I bought a cup phone holder from Amazon- it works perfectly and tightens up for a solid mount. I didn't like that the weather tech was a loose fit that just relied on more and more cups to fill the hole.

Because some of us don't have Apple Carplay or Android Auto built into our cars and like to use apps like Waze for our maps as it's more up to date and has tons more info to get you to your destination quicker.

So you would rather use a 6"×2.5" screen for navigation than a 5"×12" screen ? What kind of sense does that make ?? the one in the car is 4× bigger.

I, personally, hate excess information on maps like google and GPS devices splatter about.........

Of course I don't want to use my phone for directions with traffic and redirect. But apps like Waze are way more intuitive than the factory navigation, which doesn't automatically redirect you around heavy traffic and find the shortest timed route. The factory nav will take you right into the heavy traffic.

I guess i still use printed maps…sigh…when i pull out a map its a good conversation starter…come to think of it i have never asked me where i was going when i had a garmin\cellphone….but witha map…folks start the conversation “hey have you tried so and so”…”where you going to?”
but ,..i do think waze and google is better then the turn by turn directions that mercedes benz offers……

if i was going to mount i would look into. A magnetic mount system like doc artisan ..have had good luck in our denali with them..

Unfortunately voice detection still fails me with the MB system. It never hears the full address. For example, if I want to go to "22553 South Wetumpka Road, Route 34 S.E., Roswell GA 78657" it will either recall something completely different or it will say the address is ambiguous, please select a line #, none of which is even close to what I said. On the other hand, you speak that to Google Maps or Waze, it gets it the first time, even auto-filling it out before I'm finished.

Like I said before, I don't get it. I had many many cars without Apple CarPlay and never had a desire to mount my phone. When I buy a car with a beautiful interior the last thing I want to do is stick some ugly mount on it somewhere.

You don't understand people putting "ugly" 18" wheels on these cars, I don't understand the ugly phone mounts lol

When I do use it, I have one of those round magnets that attaches to one of the air vents which holds the phone in place. But that really isn't all that often and the magnet usually stays out of sight in the armrest storage. I do enjoy a clean look and that's the way it is 95% of the time.

Now for the folks who run those 18" Honda clone wheels, they're stuck with that look all the time. What a pity.
