Or closest to it? Doesn't have to be MB. Please advise.

Try a Bentley Bentayga or a long wheelbase Range Rover Sport. I don't think you will be disappointed. Good luck.

Bentayga is a bit out of my price range. How about the GL / GLS? Does it ride more plush than ML / GLE?

Much more plush. I've had both. No comparison. The GLS is much more solid feeling and car like. It feels much heavier. The GLS is a much bigger unit in every respect.

To answer your initial question in a word, I’d have to say NONE. Going a bit further, I’d have to say that there is pretty much nothing on the planet, anywhere even close to the price point, that rides like a new S Class Sedan, especially when set up like my S560, with MBC, 18” wheels and very quiet, soft riding, non-run flat tires. IMO, SUV’s are just a different animal and will never offer the ride quality of a current year S Class.

On the subject of GL’s, which I have driven quite a bit, they drive & ride much better than a vehicle of such heft has a right to, but the experience is light years away from my W222.

You will not be disappointed with the GLS, especially with active curve system or full size Range Rover Supercharged or Autobiography.

Range Rover SV Autobiography is the closest if not even equal, best riding SUV, Bentayga is not even close.

That is one bad a$$ SUV. And you are right. It’s almost just as good as the S class.

I have an RR autobiography and I do not think any SUV will ride like a S Class. The whole concept of a SUV is to be a capable off roader (whether they ever go of road or not), sort of defeats the ride smooth purpose. MY RR is only used from Nov to April removed the 22" wheels and tire replaced with 20" with nokian tires. Still never going to be mistaken for an s class when it come to the way it drives.

None really lol. The S Class ride is just amazing. Old ones new ones. It is the flagships car of the MB lineup. My wife's ML rides really good. The GL/GLS rides great but the S Class just rides amazing. Range Rovers are up there as well but still cannot be compared to the S Class. As big and luxurious some SUV's are at the end of the day they are made with the option to go off road compromising ride quality.

The GLS/GL rides a little better then the ML. We shopped the GLS/GL vs ML/GLE but we do not need a 7 passenger so it was the 2015 ML for us. While it rides really good the GL/GLS with airmatic will ride better. Again still will not be a S Class.

Is yours a LWB?
My wife had a regular Autobiography and then LWB Autob. in short succession (hated the interior on the first one).
Significant improvement in ride but more ponderous to drive.

I used to have a Range Rover LWB autobiography. It was a 2016 model and I couldn’t take how bad the electronics were ( outdated ). I know they did update it but I still wasn’t the biggest fan of RR. I liked the sport better, it just had a better feeling in side to me. I currently through book by Cadillac ( subscription service ) have the Escalade platinum and while it’s not the best you have a ton of room inside it and still feels nice. The RR handled better and had higher grade leather but definitely wasn’t the softest or quiestest. I think the bentayga rides nice and moves but the exterior looks don’t do it for me. The new GLS I think comes out for 2020

The concept is an EV, btw, and some describe the body style as a hybrid SUV/sedan. A couple of articles in English are linked in this thread.
