Is 7 months on the lot too much???

I was in no hurry to move up from my '15 S550 4Matic but I found a car that, to me right now, is just perfect. About 2 hrs from me is a new 2018 S560 4Matic in a gorgeous color combo and options. When I started to research it, I found out it has been in inventory since late Oct. 2017 (about 6-7 months) but is still "new" with 50 miles on it. The MSRP is $125,300 and has everything I want, nothing I don't (as good as ordering one). My concern is the amount of time it has been sitting unsold and just what kind of deal is reasonable at this point. If I don't get a very good deal, I'll pass on it without worry as I wasn't looking to move anyway.

I'm curious why it hasn't sold in so long (maybe I'm the only one who thinks the color combo is good) and whether it has been maintained or routinely started while it sits. I would appreciate comments especially in regards the 7 month sit and what a "good deal" would look like. I have to think they would deal more than normal, but I haven't spoken to the sales folks yet, just email. I spoke with my local dealer but he admits I should deal directly with them. Thoughts, insights, suggestions, hate speech, all welcome. BTW, it's Ruby Black with Mahogany/Silk interior. Thanks! Yeah that's a "special" color combo for sure, as long as you like it, that's all that matters.

garygnu 05-10-2018 08:11 PM

Gorgeous. I think 7% off msrp is about what bmw does and Benz might. I guess you could research their cost and negotiate up (slightly) from there.
on the lot for 7 months - nobody is breaking their door down for it. Could also have been ordered and deal fell through...I don’t see plastic wrap or cardboard to protect stuff.

A car that is 7 months old with 50 miles does not need maintenance. At most, the batteries may need to be charged up or replaced, no biggie.

superpop 05-10-2018 08:40 PM

Looks like a special order that fell through. Kind of an odd color combo but if you like it, make an offer. I would offer 10% off sticker based on the color, as you will probably take a hit when you go to sell it based on this. Not that it is a bad color, it is just not a popular one.

Ronny G 05-10-2018 08:48 PM

One thing for sure the valet won't have any problem locating your car.:D

flint350 05-10-2018 09:01 PM

Thanks, I knew the color combo would be questionable for many. The photos are not of the actual car, but a match at another site, so I don't know about the plastic. I saw a video review by a dealer that used this color and was impressed. I have not seen it in person, but surely will. I hadn't thought of that valet-recognition benefit!;) If they are stuck to 7% or so, I'll pass for sure. If I can get them to 10% or better I will consider it. Either way I have to see it and that may turn my stomach or make me smile. I once had a Lexus LS that had that exterior and loved that, but the interior was very different. My current S550 is White w/ black nappa, so this would definitely be a change. Appreciate the thoughts.

flint350 05-10-2018 09:23 PM

BTW, here's the video link where I got a better idea of the interior color. At first I thought it was too reddish, but this makes me think not. Granted the salesman must have just left his Ford F-150 job based on the review, but it's actually a good overall of the car.

joeyb1000 05-10-2018 09:36 PM

I have Ruby/beige. Ruby/mahagony with the upgraded interior (as in the photos) is stunning.

7% isn’t unreasonable.

Steinhart 05-10-2018 10:01 PM

Car is beautiful IMO. 10% off MSRP is nothing rare, I have been looking for several months and practically every dealer is willing to go 10% without much conversation. I would start with an offer 15-18% off MSRP. If its been siting for 7 months, flat spots on tires and battery may be issues. I'm sure they will want to move it off their lot.

I am in your shoes, as I have a '15 S550 V4 nearing the end of lease, and looking at '18 560's now. The lease offers I've seen are horrible, I'm told the residual on a 36 month, 12k miles per lease, is 44%. My current lease, same terms, residual is 57%. My current payment is 1250/month including tax and walk off was first month, T&L. Now, for the same car, I'm looking at 1800+ per month. I'm hoping things will improve as the end of the year approaches, but if not I will probably buy my car.

stever500 05-11-2018 12:41 AM

OMG... you like this car, just get it!!! It's stunning. Who cares if you get 7 or 8 or 9 or 10% off? Just get your best discount and buy this puppy. It's practically one of a kind. It will turn heads everywhere you go. GET IT MAN, run!!!

I wouldn't sweat a % off a car, ever. You get your best deal and just go with it. Life's too short to sweat a percentage. Driving pleasure is where it's at.

Wolfman 05-11-2018 02:12 AM

This has been a difficult car to sell. This was the unofficial launch edition config for the facelift model and almost every dealer got one.
Dealers had to take them and we’re eager to discount at the time. For a while these were the only S560’s in stock. I would push for a 15% discount on them.

Good luck!

BenzV12 05-11-2018 08:46 AM

Nice choice, that color is striking as well
Happy Driving

superpop 05-11-2018 10:01 AM

If you are trading in your car they will tell you whatever you want to hear on the new car price. 15% off, sure, we can do that. They just low ball you on your trade. Prepare for a 40-45K offer on your trade.

flint350 05-11-2018 11:56 AM

Well, I received an email from the Internet Sales Manager this morning about finding me a good price (to follow). The general tone of the message and questions asked lead me to believe this will not end well. I went to the German MB site to get a more high-res look at the colors and while I'm still intrigued with the Mahogany, I am now less sure about the piano black wood trim. It is fine by itself, but I'm not so sure combined with the beige/mahogany. So a really good price will be the decider or I'll just keep my lien free '15 a bit longer. As for trade, I realize that won't go well at any dealer and would prefer local sale since my car is a $118,000 MSRP (hud, night vis, etc) in pristine condition with only 17k miles. The input here has been very helpful and appreciated. Having read Wolfman's info, I went back and read the orig. posts on the new '18's and - let's just say, I hope Streamliner doesn't come across this thread as he found this original offering downright ugly :naughty: I still like it, though the piano black is more obvious in the better photos.

flint350 05-11-2018 02:31 PM

Just got my answer, so this issue is dead. Thanks for all the input.

"After speaking with my GM, we would be able to offer you 6% off sticker bringing the sales price to $117,777.30 plus tax and tags"

garygnu 05-11-2018 02:34 PM

so it will be there another 7 months.

‘Did you respond back? Of course they are going to offer you a smaller discount on the first go around. They would be stupid not to. That would just be bad business on their part to offer you 10% off the bat .

I suggest you respond with something like this: Thank you for your offer, it’s too little a discount for me to be interested in purchasing your vehicle. If you would be willing to do ( you fill in the discount amount you are comfortable with ) I will buy your vehicle. I am serious, qualified buyer. Thank you.

Good luck!

Yes, of course I responded and they replied the price was the price and they would keep me in mind in case of some end of the month discounts in a few weeks. I found a similar car (white) in Chicago listing $124k and offering $109k, though it does have 1800 miles on it, so CPO.

superpop 05-11-2018 06:30 PM

With an original MSRP of 118K you car is probably worth retail of 53K and trade of around 48K. I just purchased a 2015 S550 with an original MSRP of around 119K and 17K miles and I gave 59K but that was 4 months ago and these cars literally depreciate around a grand a month after the first two years. If you are concerned about discounts you can get a monster discount on a 2018 in about 9 months. I would be more worried about the trade in value and less about a few points of discount. If it is worth 50-60K more for a 3 year old newer car then knock yourself out, otherwise I would just enjoy what you have.

Jan AMG 05-11-2018 07:06 PM

Hi, you can buy it, just get new tires (flat spots) and maybe a new battery.

I bought mine just like that! It’s been sitting on the lot for almost the same time. I guess no one wanted it because of the color.. and you know what? I have THE SAME color combo :) so I can tell you, it’s a little wild (I came from black/gray which was more easy on senses) and it has one minor fault - the dash is reflecting to the inside of the windshield on a sunny day. You’ll get used to it though, just expect a bit worse visibility than with a plain black dashboard top.

I love it, it is unique.

I think you have found the perfect car for you.

Jan AMG 05-11-2018 07:09 PM

The MSRP price discount can be negotiated in realms of 9-19% based on my previous experience with MB and BMW.

Streamliner 05-12-2018 11:27 AM

I find it amazing that you, most likely with a phone, took photos of this interior that actually look like the real thing, while MBUSA STILL shows this interior color to look ridiculous on their website. Here are the MBUSA depictions of the Mahogany/Silk Beige interior:

The MB pictures make that interior look really bad, like vomit in my mouth a little bit bad. The photographer clearly washed these images out to the point of absurdity.
