Car unlocks by someone else even though I'm quite a distance from car
I just found out this afternoon a strange phenomenon that should NOT be happening in my 2014 S550. My wife and I were at a graduation party and several people were interested in my car. Someone opened the door and the horn alarm went off since the door opened. I rushed over and turned it off by pressing the unlock button on the key. Then, I experimented a couple more times as my wife opened the door while it was locked and the horn went off again even though I was at least 50 feet away. When we got home we tried again with the same result. I looked at the vehicle settings and I could not find anything that controls such a thing from happening. Do guys have any idea why this is taking place all of a sudden? Once locked, the door should not be opening by anyone other than myself holding the key. I'm bringing it to the dealer first thing Tuesday.

The antennas on these cars are sensitive and one of them could be out of whack, I had an out of tune antenna on my 221 and it allowed me to lock the keys in the trunk, which it should not do.

Well, guess what? It is only the drivers side door that has this problem. My wife and I just tested all doors and the drivers side door is the only one that can be opened without the key next to it and the alarm goes off.

As you see below, it's only the drivers side door which has this problem. How long did it take for them to replace the locking mechanism on the rear drivers side side door? Thanks again! I'm bringing it to the dealer tomorrow. It's truly amazing how much help this site is for discovering issues about the S Class.

I'm very happy to report that the dealer fixed the issue of driver's side door unlocking by anyone even though I lock it. Yes, it was the locking mechanism which needed to be replaced. The best part is that the service department at the dealer did not charge me anything even though the car is a little beyond the warranty. The service manager said "you are a great customer and we are not going to charge you any money for the part and labor".

There is a bulletin/recall on some of the 222s for this, the check is to cycle the lock/unlock button 5 times then see if the door locks, if it doesn't pass you replace the mechanism. Document attached. Shows it affects 8700 vehicles.

I notice that if I don't drive my car for a few days, then walk up to the driver's door to get in, it won't unlock. I have to use the fob button to unlock it. After that , it works fine. No big deal, just wondering if this happens to others.

Thank you for this bulletin. However, it does not apply to my car (2014 S550). The bulletin says it applies to certain 2017 and 2018 S Class models. Also, in my case, it’s the driver’s side door and not the driver’s side rear door as the bulletin states.

My 2015 S550 had a problem with the two front and rear passenger doors could be opened intermittently despite the car being locked (without having the Key fobs near) triggering the alarm. After videoing and multiple trips to the MB dealer, the door locks and actuators were replaced and a SW update to (hopefully) fix it.
Several months later, the same issue only on the driver's side front and rear doors. Again MB just do a SW update and then cant replicate. Same problem occurred and again taking a video, though more common with Driver's door. Now back having actuators replaced. It is very frustrating that the car looks locked but can be opened and MB dealer and Corp support is so poor. Considering a similar recall for 2017 Models, the problem must be more widespread....
