I push the button when i park to engage the brake and pull it when i start it, mine doesnt automatically come on. I do it in all of my cars.

I also have the same color combo and think it is the best looking of any interiors! The secret to keeping it looking that way is applying Cquartz Leather Coating. The dealer wanted to charge me like $1500 to do mine. I bought the stuff online for $60 and did it myself in 2 hours. No more color displacement from jeans or anything. Just get a damp rag and wipe away! It really is that good.

i usually disengage manually to avoid that jerking feel and i feel like it's a little strain on the transmission. but yeah, going in either direction will release the parking break, with a bit of a jerking motion.

On my S450 there is no sensation of a jerk when shifting to either D or R when in Park mode. I do have my foot on the brake while doing this but I'm pretty sure you have to do this anyway!
