Picked up a 2016 S550 - what I think so far

Hi all! I pulled the trigger on a 2016 Diamond White CPO S550 from Fletcher Jones in Ontario, CA. I was searching for a while as I had to have the porceline interior with the darker wood with the Heads Up Dispay and the Rear power seat package. I'm very happy with the overall stock apearance, feel and handling of the car. A couple things I havent figured out yet, or not necessarily happy with:

1. Fuel gauge.. does it only display in percantage of 5% increments? is there a way to display "remaining miles"
2. Auto Parking Break Engaged - How do I disengage from happening everytime I park the car automatically?
3. Econo - Start/ Stop - I have to manually press the button every time I turn the car on.. is there a way for it to stay off?
4. USB ports?? is it me or are there not any ports in the rear console? Are they hidden?

Here are some quick pics

Fuel gauge.. does it only display in percantage of 5% increments? is there a way to display "remaining miles" Percentage only. Remaining miles can be found in the Trip menu
2. Auto Parking Break Engaged - How do I disengage from happening everytime I park the car automatically? Just drive away, the parking brake will disengage automatically, no need to do anything.
3. Econo - Start/ Stop - I have to manually press the button every time I turn the car on.. is there a way for it to stay off? Nope
4. USB ports?? is it me or are there not any ports in the rear console? Are they hidden? It may depend on the options you have for the rear seating. I don’t know as the rear seating in my car has no options.

on my MY15 I have to manually release the parking brake. It will not move if I don't. Am I missing something? I would love for it to manually engage at park and disengage at start.

Yes, you are missing something. Put the car in drive and step on the gas pedal, the parking brake will disengage. Simple!

On my S63, when I drive the car in Sport Mode for the tranny, the "auto engine shutoff" does not occur. The motor never shuts off at stops. Do non-AMG vehicles have a tranny setting other than Comfort that might do the same thing? I can't remember from the few test drives I've had of those pre-facelift versions.

lol I will try. When I do that the car doesn't want to move so I manually disengage. Maybe I stopped pressing gas pedal too early. Works with going in reverse too?

‘Yes, our lesser vehicles have a Sport Mode as well and yes, they do the same thing.

In sport mode it doesnt start stop, your parking brake could be set on autopark and can prb be turned off, mine doesnt do it. Rera usb's prb doesnt have them. is that a non 4matic in canada?

Phillyfinest 06-21-2018 05:42 PM

Well i did what you said and it did what you said Socalsteve. I laffed. Even though i only had the car for 3 months i cant believe i was manually disengaging the park brake. Lol. Thanks for the info.

2. I have "driving away" however there is a slight jerk that reminds me of unwanted torque lock
3. bummer
4. not enough usb ports

thanks for your reply!

Yes I agree about the parking brake staying on just a tiny bit too long when you hit the throttle. I feel like that cant be good for the brakes long term so I do generally manually release the parking brake every time before I put the car in drive. No big deal. My car is a 2015. I'll bet benz updated the software in the newer cars like maybe 2017 and up so it does not do this. My 2018 E63 AMG has no lock up feeling at all and the parking brake just releases without a hiccup so I never have to touch the parking brake release in that car. Theres only one reason I'd think about trading in my 2015 S550 for a 2018 Up S560 and thats for the improved adaptive Cruise control. I think I'll hang onto to my 2015 another year or so and see what changes the 2020's bring. Maybe I'll get a better trade in on my car by then when the 20 percent tariffs hit :)

Re parking brake

if you pull the brake release and hold it while you turn the car off and keep holding it while you open the door the emergency brake will not engage.

Or you could not think about it and when you get in the car, just drive off. The parking brake will disengage on its own. Seems simpler.

I agree. I think it operates very well as designed.

DriveAMG 06-24-2018 03:57 PM

I agree completely

but sometimes you want to have the ability to park your car and not use the emergency brake...
