Do you love your S class?

Please please please please do not take what I'm about to say in any way that is personal. I am truly not trolling, but I would love to ask this question.

Do you love your S class?

Please pardon me here. The reason I started this thread is that I respect the S class. I have read so many reviews and have seen so many Youtube reviews and everyone is in love with it. That said, I am not. I think it's a great car, but after looking at all of the options that are out there, it is clear to me that the S class is the vehicle that I should buy.

Here's why I am perplexed. When I bought my W204, I looked at it, and could not WAIT to buy it. In fact, I bought it the same day I drove it, and bought it fully loaded. Now 6.5 years later, it's got another 6 months of warranty, and while there are things that annoy me (the ride is one and it's a big enough issue given my medical conditions for me to buy a S), I love the car to pieces. I just drove 800km or so today and the car completely destroyed that mileage, and we (as in the car and I) had a blast. We jammed to some tunes, bullied people out of the left lane, and it was great.

Let's just say it's a really healthy relationship. So that's why I'm stuck here. I don't love the S class. I don't love the interior at all (and those LED lights don't hit the mark for me). The ride is great, and the car is beautiful, but I have no relationship with said car.

So the reason I'm starting this thread is again, not to be a troll, but I'd like to know if there are some of you that looked at the S, bought the S, and then fell madly in love with it. Yes, we are all men and we have a relationship with our cars :-) That said, this next purchase will be the most expensive car I have ever bought, and my gut isn't really helping me right now. I have driven all the major competitors and the S is the closest to the bill, but I'm not so sure.

I appreciate any feedback and advice and comments on this. Thanks!

YES! I have loved my 2014 S500. I like everything about it. But now I'm anxiously waiting for the 2019 S450 to be released and I am really looking forward to it. It sounds to me that you are SO unsure what you want to buy, that perhaps the best decision for you to make is do nothing until you can make a comfortable decision.

I do love my 2018 S560 sedan. The things that are most important to me in a car: safety, comfort, ride quality, quietness, luxury—this car aces. That said, it’s not a perfect car and what is so annoying, is that it could be, and fairly easily. To make my S560 the “perfect” car, I would like the following:

1. A full size, matching, alloy spare hidden below the trunk floor, along with a jack & tool kit.

2. The Panorama Roof would be optional.

3. There would be a MUCH wider array of exterior and interior color choices, similar to what Bentley offers.

4. There would be many more, physical buttons and/or switches to operate various things such as the sound system, climate control, etc., in addition to controlling these functions through the Command System.

5. A fold down rear seat should be optional, as available on the E Class.

6. The pre 2018 CD Changer should still be optional.

7. The styling, both inside and out, would be UNIQUE to the S Class, and not just that of a puffed up C or E Class.

I would be more than happy to pay an additional $20K to $30K if my S560 could come to me this way.

OMG, don't buy the S then if you don't love it. What about the Alpina B7 or M760i BMWs?

It would be foolish to buy a car you don't love. I LOVE MY CAR, faults and all. I LOVE the interior, much more so than the BMW, and I adore the exterior, much more than the BMW, and I'm a BMW car guy to the core. My nieces loved the car too. Just got it 6 months ago. Still learning how to do stuff with it, it's so complicated. I'm 365 pages now into the 580 page manual. I read 2 to 4 pages a night.

Love is a pretty strong word, but I do really enjoy my S550. 6 months in and I still look for reasons to go drive it. I get bored with cars pretty fast though and am already contemplating handing mine over to my wife and picking up a Range Rover Supercharged V8 or maybe a Diesel. Still like the S and it is as quiet and solid as they come but you cannot haul much in it and I miss having an SUV. My wife has a little Lexus SUV that is way too small for me but I like the looks and size of the RR HSE. Personally I would never buy one new as they lose so much value in the first few years and a really nice 2-3YO example can be had for around half the price of new. Only downside is that the minute I hand my flawless S to the warden, it will die a slow death of latte stains and curbed wheels. Hmm, what to do.

It’s just a piece of machinery. If you enjoy driving it, even with the flaws, go for it. If the minuses out weigh the pluses go elsewhere.
Having cancer is a problem. Driving a S Class is not.....

As a shades of grey person, I don't love my 2015 S600, but I do like it a lot.

I guess the question would be what else are you considering to compare with the S-Class. Not much compares but everyone has different needs and taste.

Do you think you would be more happy with a BMW 7 Series or Audi A8 instead?

2018 Lexus LS500 - fail.
2018 Genesis G90 - fail.
2018 BMW 7 series - fail.

In my defense:
2018 Mercedes S class - ugh.

My only hope?
2019 Audi A8.

I haven't fell in love with any flagship yet and this entire process has left me really bothered.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
You need a Maserati Quatroporte https://www.maseratiusa.com/maserati...s/quattroporte It actually is pretty amazing they are getting 406 ft lb of torque out of a V6.

Wow, you are quickly running out of options . How about a Porsche Panamera?

Above my price range. A S450 4matic specced with the Premium Package, 3D stereo, HUD, Air Balance package after manufacture rebates and the executive car allowance discount I get brings the dealer cost to $101,000.

A Panamera has no such incentives and as specced we would be looking at 120K+

Please! Maserati is junk compared to all the other cars being compared, plastic bits all over it, horrible door gaps, and really bad residual value.

Well, if you want to love your car you might either need to spend more money to get the very best options included, or you need to negotiate better. Or both. That’s the facts.

I have all the options I want. My issue with the S is I'm not a big fan of the interior. The wheels are staggered, it runs on run flats.

Note the costs above are dealer cost so they have nothing to do with negotiations.

Well, there is 3-4% dealer holdback, and there can be incentive money. So, not sure what you mean by dealer cost. And I was offered $20,000+ off on a Panamera 4S before I even test drove it so there are discounts around.

And truthfully I am not sure why you are not a fan of the interior? The baroque design with the diamond stitched leather is perfect for the 77 year old interior decorator ladies going out for the early bird in boca raton? Is that not you? You go by Sylvia, right?

Quit your bit**ing.

I just don't like it. Holy cow, it's a matter of personal taste - there is no right or wrong here. I do like the 2018 Audi A8 interior, and less so of the 2019 A8, but the latter hasn't come out yet.

You may be better off buying a newer used S63. You can buy a lot of car for 100K on the used market. For 100K you can get a 2016 S63 loaded up on options with about 15K miles. Spend another 6K on an ELW and enjoy. That is what I would do.

Thanks for the suggestion. While I have entertained the idea of buying an older S class, I do like buying a new car and maintaining things the right way. You never know how an old Merc is maintained here, and PIPEDA requirements means that even cars with a full service history....those records cannot be disclosed to a new owner (much to my detriment again as I also keep a full service history).

The improved autonomous driving of the MY18/MY19 is also something I am interested in, as well as the new headlights. I'm a sucker for those three LED lines (yes, mock away )

Then pull up your britches and don’t buy it. I dont love it either. I didn’t buy it, but then again I don’t feel 750s, B7s and 760s are “fails.”

The whole purpose of a forum is to help people answer all of their questions and to make informed buying decisions. There are many pros for me to buy an S, and many cons. This forum is a way for me to make an informed buying decision and if I buy an S class and I am not madly in love with it, then there are reasons for me to do so.

That's all it is. The hottest blond in school may be great "company", but it may not be a wise financial choice. Life isn't all about black and white, but mostly about navigating 48 shades of grey (or however many LED color choices are in a S class)

whatever. You want to buy a car because you like its 3 eyebrow headlights. Yeah...a forum can’t help solve your issues.
