Approaching Deadline for New Car...

I need to get a vehicle in the next few days, so it's time to grind. My introductory post said that I was in the market for an SL, but, as with a lot of us here, priorities/situations change quickly and now I want/need a sedan.

The underlying criteria for the vehicle stays the same as what I was looking for with the SL: comfort, ***** and enjoyment. I also need the room the S-Class offers.

This is the car I'm looking for: A CPO S550, S63 or even a Maybach with low mileage.

This is what I'm looking for from the Forum: Any advice, and the pros/cons, about which are the preferable model years and any suggestions about options/packages would all help.

This is why I like forums so much. On many forums that I am a member of, members have posted questions like I have here and have gotten great advice. Hopefully, that will continue here with my post. I have gained so much information here already just by reading the posts and threads.

Well, the first question would be, what is your budget? You can spend 60K or 160K on what you describe.

Actually meant the S65 Cabriolet. That is $251,000.00 base price. It might be the last year for the V12 so it might be a bargain

Based on what you've stated here, seems like an S550 is the way to go. You didn't mention budget, but based on the models you suggested, you're anywhere from $50k-$150k. You're hardly going to find a CPO Maybach, and if you do I wouldn't suggest that purchase. Point being is most folks that buy a Maybach went looking to buy a Maybach; they didn't come to get an S550 and get swapped to a Maybach. In any case, they will be few & far between, and will be pricey for what you get. An S63 is a healthy choice, but again you'll be a little limited on good availability. If you don't need 63-type power or care about the exclusivity, I wouldn't consider it either - too much worry about maintenance expenses over the course of your ownership.

If you're wanting something with space, power, and tons of comfort in a sedan package, an S550 will give you everything you're looking for without going overboard. A 2015/16 CPO S550 will be a solid choice for you to look at. Plenty of them out there to get the right one you're looking for, not too expensive as a CPO, comes with guarantees, and you'll have everything you want. A standard S550 is plenty fast for your average consumer. This is what I would recommend you get yourself into.

As far as features/options go...for me, Driver's Assistance Pack is a must, absolutely have to have it. S-Class vehicles are still produced without these features, but definitely don't skimp out on that. Appearance wise, a sport-pack S-Class is the way to go, looks so much better, but that's subjective and may not be right for you. Other than that, all S550s from those model years will have the stuff you need; the only differences will be smaller things like upgraded upholstery, a heads-up display, or power actuated rear seats. In my market, the Warmth & Comfort Package isn't all that popular, but you might like to have that added functionality where you live.

Let us know if you have any questions!

The best way I can summarize and answer your question is, you want luxury and comfort, S class is your ticket. If you want a car with luxury, comfort and *****, get the S63. You will not find another model in the Mercedes lineup that has all 3 attributes. SL class you’ll get luxury and *****, but not comfort. You’ll get comfort and *****, but not luxury in a E class.

Best of of luck on your decision.

I'd say the Regular S550 has some pretty good ***** For a big car it moves out pretty darn good. If you wanted it to seem more sporty just change out the mufflers for Flowmasters or something like that. I can't see spending all the extra money for a S63 when the S550 can be a lot more motivated in both speed and handling than I thought it would be.

Would one consider a W213 E450 and upgrading the exhaust and maybe even a tune and consider it having ***** vs W213 E63s. I guess it’ll depend
on how one’s definition as having *****?

Like I said, if one wanted all 3 attributes of luxury comfort and ***** in a S class, there is nothing like a S63, same as in an E class minus the comfort of course vs S class.

The E will not be as comfortable as the S. I'd just go with the S if I were you. I don't think you'd have any regrets unless you just don't want a big car.
