Yes, exactly thats right, I hardly every use the touch pad either and they heat up and to me seem pretty much useless. I would much rather have the keypad like the original picture, at least that looks more useful. Af far as interchanging them, forget about about they must have used a whole other software driven module with the touch pad, so much more high tech setup, even though useless, lol.

When I'm driving, the voice command works very well on the 2014 S550. I don't understand why you have to press 1 for English, extension #47, etc. You should NOT have to do all that crap. Have you checked with the dealer? I have a keypad but NEVER use it.

If for example when I call my corporate office, I have to press 106 to talk to my coordinator after I call the main number. If you try to do this by scrolling on the screen, it doesn't half the time accept the input because it is too slow of a process, or the touch tone signal doesn't work correctly.

Have you never called a business and been forced to press certain numbers or symbols to navigate their phone menu??

My 2014 S63 has the number pad and leather flip cover and I use it all the time for speed dial “favorites”, hang up, as well as touch-tone codes. I also rest my hand on the leather cover sometimes when driving. The touch sensitive replacement seemed like a step backwards to me.

Yes but like I said, if you need to enter an extension number, or something involving a symbol like # or *, you can forget it. The menu options on the receiving end of the call won't give you enough time to effectively enter them. That's why having a touch tone pad was so nice.

Are you sure you want to do that switch? If you drive with your right arm/hand resting on the console, you may find it a pain since the moment your hand brushes against the touchpad, you may change your radio station, music etc....I just leave mine off.

I assume both are physically compatible but the keypad connects to Comand via a LIN-bus and the touchpad connects via CAN. Needs modified wiring but the main thing is to make Command aware of the choice because a lot changes on the menus and the appearance (like small screens being shown). Handwriting addresses etc. need significant changes to the UI. I did not check if all this can be done via version coding (on the common SW) or if the head unit software package is different for the two.

What do you want to know? The first one has buttons, the second one does not.

While the Touchpad may look cool, it is absolutely useless as noted above. The Comand wheel does everything the touchpad does, but much faster and more reliably. If you add an aftermarket Carplay module, like I did, the touchpad does not even work anymore.

I meant in what cases these blocks are put on auto. There is a suspicion that until 2014 the releases were installed without a touch screen, and after that with a touch screen. Or does it just depend on the configuration and does not depend on the year of manufacture of the car?

I love touchpads but having a numeric keypad has proven to be more useful when making calls
