Moving on up..

I just picked up my 2014 S550. One owner, local, CPO with 40k miles. It wasn't quite optioned up as nicely as I would have liked but it's pretty pristine and in the colors I like.

I have a couple of questions.

I have these options on the datacard:
608 AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM SWITCH (IHC)

640 DYNAMIC LED HEADLAMPS, SAE, RIGHT-HAND TRAFFIC

The datacard if needed. Datacard

Is this adaptive high beam assist plus? Where it carves out the beam? Or is this like the older setup that just flips them from high to low?

Also it's missing the 360 camera. Has anyone ever added that?

Very, very nice looking car. Sorry I can't answer any of your questions though.

Has a few nice options and all of the safety options which is nice. Looks like the headlights are the adaptive ones that turn as you turn the wheel. Works great.

Gorgeous car - those wheels are HOT.

Thats a good looking ride brother.

Looks good, The interior looks just like mine, my ext is Pallidium grey though. Like you I don't have the Surround view and I sure wish I did, it was only a 900 dollar option and really no practical way too add it. I took out a front Spoiler in Miami off a curb a while back, the front end is very low. With this camera I would have avoided this happening. Like your wheels better than mine, I just have the 18 inch base ones. Even though my car did not have all the options I wanted I could not pass it by, it was 60 grand about a year and a half ago with 31K miles on it. It does at least have the Distronic cruise control and Premium Package one. So as long as you got a good deal and like the car thats all that counts, just be careful parking and make sure you are behind the curbs as it will catch under the curb a lot of the time if you go over it and especially if it has those rods sticking up it will tear off your front spoiler when you go to back out. I learned the hard way, 700 dollar mistake. Do you have any warrantee on the car? Mine is a 2015 and I still have about a year and half left, it was a CPO.

Streamliner 08-27-2018 12:15 AM

For any S Class to not have the Surround View system is a travesty. Something like that should be standard by now. You would think that MB would WANT every S Class to be equipped with something like that and that it would be an embarassment to have these high end luxury cars running around without that system.

Ya, I realized how important an option it is after I hit that curb in Miami last winter. I hope to get a new one within a year or so, I'll drive the 2015 for a while longer and probably sell it next spring. It's so nice in my 2018 AMG the way the camera just comes up automatically when I get close to a parking curb and I can park in front of it by a couple of inches with laser precision.

I AGREE! IT's a $100k car.

And those are some of the nicest stock wheels i"ve soon on an S in a long time!!!

Thanks guys. I like those wheels a lot too. I've been driving it for about 3 days now. In some ways it rides better than my 07 W221 but sometimes it feels like it's bouncing over bumps in the road.. I assume that's the run flats? I did notice that the tire pressures were 40 all around and the fuel flap says 33 so I'll make that adjustment and see if that helps.

Lowering the tire pressure will make a pleasant difference.

It's the run flats. It's funny. Remember, the w222 is basically identical to the w221. Not many know this, and some will swear it rides so much better, but the fact that you know you have a new car makes you think things are automatically worlds better. Mercedes just about perfected their air suspension and it's can't really get better. I'm not talking about the magic stuff, just the standard air.

Hands down these S classes are some of the best riding cars on the road today.

What's disappointing is how slow the car rises when you press the button to raise the car to avoid boo-boos. It nearly takes 25 seconds to go up just that inch or two.

Very nice looking car. You could have bought my 2014 S550. Just kidding. I'm trading it in.

Congrats , 360 view camera is very handy but such systems make me contemplate , how people managed to park their big land yachts back in 50's 60's even 70's ? It's not that necessary but once you are used to using it you always want it there ,just to be safer when it comes to parking .
Our Fleetwood didn't come with those let alone park sensors but having installed a rear view camera I have to say parking is much easier :)

Those were the same colors I had on mine. I have a few left over things if you're interested. Enjoy the ride.

garygnu 08-28-2018 08:08 AM

gorgeous.
for the lights, i'd suggest looking at the sides of the headlights - does it say intelligent lighting system? i'm not sure if they all do, but if it is the ILS it shoudl have all the bells and whistles like my 2016.
if you turn the wheel and night and the headlights follow then you have adaptive - and i'm not sure in 2014 if they had any non-adaptive or non-ILS.
here's what i pulled from mine - looks like you ticked the same two boxes, so i think you have the ILS.
good luck!

Congrats and beautiful car!! I just received my 2014 S550 as well https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Does your automatic high beam "carve" out the light for oncoming traffic or does it just flip both beams to low?

That feature is only available in Europe, in the U.S. we get the dumbed down on/off high beams, which doesn't bother me because the low beams are so powerful I barely ever notice the high beams coming on lol.

garygnu 08-28-2018 08:27 AM

i'm not sure - i think mine does carve out, but at times hard to tell. also doesn't work quite as incredibly as the demo videos i've seen - highway, local, etc. - but still cool.
my BMW 5 had "anti dazzle headlights" where i believe a shutter or obstruction would go in front of the beam to avoid glaring other cars - and there was a computer code in that it was disabled in the US because they didn't pass the DOT regulations - with hacking i understand you could turn it back on - i never did that stuff.

If you're in the U.S. you do not have the fully adaptive high beams that pretty much stay on all the time. The feature is disabled for U.S. cars and is extremely hard/not possible to activate and nobody has done it yet. The BMW's are easier to activate the feature but as I understand their headlights are actually less advanced than the Benz's headlights to begin with. You're not really missing out, unless you do tons of country driving the feature wouldn't really be active most of the time anyway.

Sadly it looks like I have he standard adaptive high beam (non plus). After a night cruise both beams dip together in all situations. Was this because of regulations in 2014 or is it the fact I don't have that option? I'm wondering if I set the car to rest of world with xentry if I'll get the cool beam carving goodness.

There were no options to select in the US. Due to outdated DOT regulations all US cars (to date) get a dumbed down version of the intelligent LED lighting system (which was the best lighting option to get). The MY18+ are better and you have better high beam curtains and a start-up light show but they do a fraction of what they are supposed to do.
