Why are the steering wheels not dead center?

Patiently waiting until tomorrow to see if the MY19 S classes are released here, and one of the things that I'm annoyed about this next purchase which I cannot address (unlike RFTs), is the fact the steering wheel is not dead center relative to the driver's seat. I see this in the W213, 211, 204, 205 etc. This is NOT the case with the 2018 Lexus LS500 or the D5 A8, or D4 A8 for that matter.

So why the F did MB do this? As someone who has debilitating back pain, a dead on center steering wheel would go a long way to avoid me from having to twerk the upper half of my body to accommodate this issue Anyone know?
