On the subject of S63s, lookie what I came across.

Obviously at that price point it makes 0 sense, but I think that's the first S63 I've seen around here without the Burmester 3D option. Seriously? Who the F buys a $200,000 (CDN) car and doesn't go for the Burmester system?! Even if I get the S450, I'm getting the 3D system, period.
Oh well. She is a beaut though!!!

To each their own of course, but holy moly that's a lot of high end cars!!!

To the points about warranty, the one included with my CPO ends in Feb 2019 so I have sourced a 2 year Extended Warranty from Mercedes for $3600 which I think is reasonable for an S63. Shopping around dealers saved me $2-3k.

Looks fully loaded inc 3D Burmester and 35k miles for $86k (you can negotiate them down from these advertised prices). Note pretty much every CPO S63 will involve travel to go test drive it - I got lucky and mine was "only" 60 miles away.

Be careful on the warranty if you want to extend. I purchased my 2015 with 17K miles on it from a broker. Still under MBUSA warranty. Went to dealer to extend and they said that MB has changed the rules so that you cannot extend an MB factory warranty if the car was sold through a 3rd party. Checked with several dealers and they all said the same thing. Decided to self cover and save the 3K in warranty cost. So far no problems.

Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately this has never “left MB” - originally ordered from local dealer, traded back in to same dealer 2 years later when I then bought it as CPO.

Dealers can easily sell the MB extended warranty.

It's certainly possible they changed the rules, but as I understand it the following applies to used. If purchased from a 3rd party and is in the original 4/50 warranty, it qualifies for Mercedes ELW, not CPO. If it was purchased from a Mercedes dealer, but not sold as CPO, it does not qualify for either CPO or ELW. If that's accurate, hope it makes sense.

Wrong, I went to 5 different dealers including my local one that would have loved to sell me a MB ELW but they could not. The rules have changed, once the car is sold by a 3 party, regardless of warranty status, they will not sell you a MB ELW. It is controlled by MBUSA and they have a trigger in their system that will not allow the sale of an ELW if the car was sold by a 3rd party.

I am not stating this as a hypothetical. This can and is being done, including our dealer that was planning to do this on an used private sale AMG GT I was looking at.
Most will do this by CPO’ing the car but it can be done without that.
No matter what the dealer tells you, they have discretion on MB extended warranties.

Sorry if it was a strong statement but I am pretty sure on this. I called several dealers and even talked to a few GM's that all stated the same thing. There is a box that get's checked under vehicle VIN that marks the car as ineligible for any MB ELW. I did do this with my last S550 but this time around no luck. I also asked about CPOing the car and they said that would not matter. The GM told me it was a new rule instituted by MB to add value to buying the car from a Merc Dealer as they are being undercut by brokers that go to the auctions and buy the cars cheap and then sell them for a lot less than MB dealers do. I also called MBUSA to complain and they said, sorry, nothing we can do. Pretty crappy move on the part of MB but I did not have any luck lobbying.
