First time with Distronic feature

So my 2010 W221 did not have Distronic.
The first few times I used it, when a car cut in front of me it would feel like it's slamming on the brakes.
Getting used to that, but might help if adjusting for more gap?
As for stop and go traffic... I love this feature.

Actually, less "gap" might keep others from attempting to squeeze in between you and a leading car. Also, a setting of "more gap" would cause the Distronic to more aggressively "slam on the brakes" to restore the following distance when another car "cuts in".

I do have it set at least distance. Unfortunately that’s still way too much room for drivers in my area to cut in.

It’s a magnificent system and a wonderful “AID” to drivers. It’s not nearly perfect and requires near constant monitoring in busy traffic conditions. That said, I believe that properly used, it cuts down on driver tension, pressure and fatigue by a significant percentage.

I totally agree with you.
All that stop and go in rush hour traffic wears on a driver.

I stopped using cruise back in the 80's , but when I fell in love with my 2007 S600, I said to myself I would never buy a car without adaptive cruise again, and I haven't. I can do without a radio before I can do without Distronic.

I love the feature as I stated before. Streamliner, I'm still confused about the stop/go feature. I read the manual and it states that for my car to start moving on it's own when there is a car in front and that car starts to move within 30 seconds, it must be on a multilane road (don't understand why it has to be a multilane road but so be it) on both sides. So, if I'm on a multilane road on both sides, why does mine work on a few of the stops and not on others? It makes no sense to me. I'm sure that where a lot of you guys live in CA, basically all roads are multilane so the feature likely works most of the time. Any feedback from you or others would be greatly appreciated. My dealer is checking into it but I have not yet heard. Everything else works exactly as advertised. This includes stopping when a car ahead is completely stopped. Oh, and I absolutely love this car.
