Warranty and Salvage
Got a killer deal on a "salvage" loaded 2015 S550 with 25k at auction. 41k cash. Salvage reason is theft as confirmed by Carfax with no damage during the theft reported. No accident history. I have the car parked at home and it checks out with only the auxiliary battery needing replacement. I assume the warranty is void but am wondering if anything could be done since this car was never in an accident.

Might be able to get a 3rd party warranty for around 4-5K. Personally I would just drive it and enjoy it. Get the 2 campaigns done and find a good indy to do any needed work as you go. You will probably be money ahead going without a warranty but that is your call.

Interesting that on the carfax is was stolen in 2016 and looks like someone drove it for about a year. Shudder to think how they treated it. After that it looks like it floated around for a while before ending up at auction. Odd carfax. I would probably get a full service done along with a tranny service just incase it was abused. And a national search indicates that this car is selling for around 49K with a blemish on the title. So 41K was a great deal.

Meaning a tranny fluid flush? The strange thing is the car came with a leather keychain from a Mercedes dealer. Is it possible for someone here to pull service records for it?

I recommend just bringing the car to the dealer, have them perform a B-service and the mentioned service campaigns.
This way your car is properly checked over (if case something requires other maintenance/repairs) and has you on a regular service schedule moving forward.

I ask because that picture looks very familiar. If it is indeed the same car, I came across it when it was posted on autotrader. I even acquired about it because it was local then I found out it was a salvage. I could of swore the dude said it was under body damage.

I assume copart does an inspection and would have noted any underbody damage. I’ll have the car on a lift when I get service done soon. You remember the interior color/details and mileage or other differentiating factors?

It had black interior and had a non amg sport package bumpers. Mileage was somewhere in the low 20’s. I was only looking at cars that had less than 25k hence the reason I looked into it.

Here’s a random link with pictures from the auction. Did the seller mention the VIN was scratched off under the windshield and there were some punctures in the rear bumper?
