Is this explanation Legit ? ( S550 windshield )

2016 S550 equipped reflective IR windshield stone damage replaced at the dealer with MB non-/IR reflective clear glass with an explanation that this is the correct MB replacement, the Ir/reflective windshield is no longer available based on my VIN. I find that hard to believe and have sent an email to MB USA but not holding my breath so reaching out to the MB forums for opinions or how to verify the dealers explanation ( the owner has a less than steller reputation ). Sound even remotely likely ? If it was you then what ?

OEM windshield 2226706200 replaces original 2226705600 of which EPC still notes code 596 = heat insulating + IR reflecting glass.

I don't know if that's the same as the acoustic glass but it makes a big difference in noise.

All Mercedes S class sold in the US have had IR reflective glass forover10 years. I believe the non IR glass was only used on lower cost European versions which had much less standard equipment and often smaller engines.

Thanks Steve, I was told by the service writer, a good guy, that the parts dept ordered the replacement based on my VIN and a non -IR reflective is what was shipped and installed with no mention to me. When I picked it up complained that they just de-valued my car they got back to me two days later and stated that the response from MB parts was that this is the current replacement part. Needless to say that makes zero sense to me but I cant imagine why MB would even be making a non reflective windshield for a 2016 S class but there is the logo on the glass.....I have no idea if it's genuine or not. I'm hoping MB USA gets back to me some day meanwhile it's parked.

If you get in just the right light from the outside you should be able to see the "cutouts" in the glass in the lower center and just to the passenger side of the cameras up top if you have the athermic glass.
