2018 S560 Battery Location
I cannot find the main battery in my 2018 S560. I removed the trunk liner and there is definitely a Battery Tray on the trunk floor pan .....but NO BATTERY. I can see what looks like a large black grounding cable coming out of the left rear quarter panel liner in the trunk - the battery might be located behind that panel. There is also the possibility the battery is located in the back of the right rear passenger seat back (also accessible from the trunk if I removed that trunk liner). I believe the location of the battery may have been changed on production AFTER November 2017. My vehicle was produced in April 2018.

The battery is very large (huge) and sits nearly underneath the rear seats. To access it you need to unscrew and remove the two black tabs bolted to the floor nearest the rear seats (that hold the floor to the car) and then pull the entire trunk floor out. You may need to remove the trunk liner also to get access.

FYI -
Not sure why the 2019 and/or extended wheelbase (Maybach) S560 is different than the 2018 standard wheelbase S560, but the starter battery is veryeasy to access.
One more thing...once you replace the starter battery in a late-model W222 (or any modern car), you need to register (reset) the battery management system to recognize the new battery. The BMS counts the engine (re)starting and charge cycles of the battery from new, and adjusts the charging system accordingly. This is not super-critical to do immediately when the battery is replaced, but you should get it registered within the first 1,000 miles to get the maximum life out of your (new) battery. The BMS reset will require a capable OBD programming tool.

- Remove 2 screws on the net holddowns in the back on the trunk floor.
- Remove the trunk floor.
- Remove the 2 push-pins at the threshold plate.
- Remove the threshold plate.
- Remove the trunk well.

IIRC vehicles with ABC will have the battery relocated to behind the rear seats, others will be in trunk well as pictured.

Seems like various reasons for the relocated battery based on the information posted by @konigstiger . Just browsing the model designations I see Hybrid cars, AMG cars S600 and as noted the 810 Sound System.
