Is Active Noise Cancellation standard on Burmester? Adding Subwoofer
I'm in the process of adding a subwoofer in the trunk of my 2015 S550 with the Standard Burmester System.
The installer asked me if I have active noise cancellation (ANC) and that they would have to disable it if that is the case. He is going to research it but wondering if anyone knows if we have ANC in our cars. |
the easiest way to see if you have ANC is to look at your headliner in the rear and see if there is a small vented plastic panel that may appear to have a microphone in it. usually you can find them in the front passenger and driver side roof liners

The W205 does not have Active Noise Cancellation. It supposedly has something Mercedes calls Vehicle Noise Compensation (VNC), but it does not involve any microphones in the cabin “listening”. As best we could tell it increased some bass frequencies depending on vehicle speed to compensate for road noise. There’s a lot of over-hype from Mercedes about the Burmester, which contains no Burmester anything BTW, so file “VNC” under that. My my personal favorite is the use of “analog crossovers for a warm, natural sound”. Translation: “We glued a .03 cent capacitor on the back of a common silk dome tweeter and called it a day.” Just tying in a sub and amp should have no affect on VNC. |
