AMG S63 2019

I test drove a 2019 S63 AMG today and didn’t find it that much impressive compared to my S560. The seat are not as comfortable as my S63 which may not be a point of driving a AMG. However, I experienced a rough shifting On some gears. decided to keep my S560 and not upgrade. Looking forward for your professional opinions.
thanks

Well, I don’t know how “professional” my opinion is, but I consider my S560 to be “THE” best sedan on the market today. I find it blisteringly quick and very fast, to a point where I would consider anything quicker or faster, at the expense of comfort to be an utter waste and a ridiculous proposition in a country where most maximum speed limits are well under 100mph. Now, if they would just make it a bit more customizable and a bit more luxurious, that would be great. Speaking of AMG, I do feel that the Ceramic Composite brake option should be offered across the range of the W222 & some other higher end models. I would have popped the $8950.00 for them, if just to keep my wheels clean.

100% percent agreed on all. Especially the ceramic brakes, for the same exact reason. It takes only a day or two to go from pristine clean to just bleh...!

Well, some of us prefer to leave the car the way it came from the factory. I'll ask the dealer about the ceramic pads, but I'm pretty sure that the answer will be that they don't recommend them and that using them may cause problems with the warranty.

They will eat the rotors very quickly. You'll spend $9000 for the brakes and then have to pay $4000 every 30,000 miles for new rotors as ceramic is obviously much harder than regular brake pad material. But ! You won't have near the brake dust problem.

S450, S560, S63, S65/Maybach in that order. S560 is second to last of the S class food chain. I got my S63 for the confort, luxury and performance and all have lived up to my expectation.

you are confusing pads with carbon ceramic brake upgrades. Also ceramic pads are easier on the rotors not the other way around. The trade off to ceramic pads and steel rotors is the stopping distance is increased. Benefit is almost no brake dust.

I had the ceramic pads on my last S Class and the brake dust reduction was night and day. OEM pads would coat the wheels in black powder after a few miles. The Ceramic pads would take months to show any sign of dust. And they wore and performed about the same. When the binders on my 15 wear out I will do the same.

akebono doesnt currently make the ceramics for the s550-560. So at this point i think your only option is 350$ italia ceramics.

Companies offer selection to provide customers with choices.
Everyone seems to have a particular priority: Comfort, size, safety, prestige, or simply they want the biggest one the company makes. Or all of the above. AMG's will be rougher by design and the shifting is based on how you drive. The shifting is appropriate for spirited driving and will be clunkier if you drive it like a normal S-Class. It's a multi-clutch, so not really comparable with a torque converter. It works well and fast acceleration.

I personally wouldn't go for a S63 although I like them. To me, the AMG demeanor fits other models better, such as the E-Class or AMG GT models. Different story on the Autobahn; it is a perfect long distance, high-speed business cruiser. Going 180mph feels very comfortable

I agree on the Carbon Ceramics! Besides the price these are better in every way.
While the speed limits are very low in the US, half the fun is to how to get to it I maybe old school but love high-torque V8 engines (also appreciate the instant full-on torque of electric motors). The speed limit in traffic is secondary.
There are of course areas in the US where virtually no car makes sense; you'll be faster walking or taking a bicycle.

This is what I was suggested to get for my 2018 S63 but I'm waiting a while till the car is older and I need new brake pads since I'm "thrifty". They are about $950 or so for the set of 4 so I'm going to try to get my money's worth first from the OEM pads that are on it now. The car has 10,000 miles so far. And me too, wish the car was ordered with the gold ceramic brakes so they'd be more dust free. I HATE brake dust cleaning.

RADO AMG DUST FREE REAR BRAKE PADS
Dust free padsAvailability: In stock

$395.00

RADO AMG BRAKE PADS

The RADO brake pads are dust free pads and are manufactured by Project Mu in Japan. Sometimes it makes more sense to have another company make parts for you. Most people do this in order to get the parts manufactured cheaper, in the case of these brake pads, that is not the reason. Project Mu is one of the most expensive manufacturers of brake pads in the world. The pads are tried and tested in almost every form of racing, including with the Williams Formula One team.

DUST

The primary objective with these pads is to eliminate the dust problems that are associated with todays high performance Mercedes Benz's. When using the RADO pads, you get rid of the dust issues and do not increase the wear of the rotors which was a very important criteria that needed to be met. You can swipe your finger across your wheel a week after you wash your car and you will get no dust on your fingers from the pads. With the stock pads you will have dust and dirt on your fingers a day after you wash your car.

PERFORMANCE

The original equipment brakes work really well from Mercedes and RADO had to improve on that performance. The Project Mu pads will stop your car in a shorter distance than the factory Mercedes pads. On the RADO test vehicle that was equipped with these pads, the car stopped 18 feet shorter from 60 MPH. That is a significant improvement in braking distance

NOISE

Brake squeal has always been a problem with AMG cars. We recommend that you or the installation shop utilizes Wurth ant-seize and Wurth Brake squeal spray to help eliminate noises associated with Mercedes brakes. We recommend these products for any brake pad that you are going to install on the car.NEED HELP OR HAVE QUESTIONS?

This is what I have… If so… what’s the best deal I can get on front and rear pad and if they end up squealing horribly (I will not be able to deal with that, at all), what are my return options? I can’t have squealing brakes and will do ANYTHING to avoid them.

I like my 2018S63 which is so much better than the 2015 S63 I had. To me the S63 is a lot more fun car to drive with all the luxury of a 560. My only complaint is that MBC is not available with 4 matic.

Unfortunately I just traded my 2018 S63 in all optioned out except for the ceramic brakes. I absolutely loved the car and would never not get an Amg model. I personally like the sportier feeling , better handling and of course the speed. Regarding the transmission, I think the 9 speed is great when in C And not to harsh in S. Sometimes it does have trouble catching and you can feel It. I had to trade it in for a GLS 63 because I needed the room. Wife’s care still had to much on a lease. The 7 speed in the GLS is awful compared to the 9 speed. It’s an amg so the seats are more aggressive but not to much and the ride isn’t going to be as smooth as a 450/560. Regarding ceramic, I didn’t go with it because I currently live in NY. ( hoping to get out of here soon )

I feel your pain, it must be hurting to give up a perfection the S63 is, for an SUV, even as nice as the GLS63.....

How about the best of both worlds.....Carbon Fiber plus Ceramic. They are called Powerstop Evolution Sport performance pads, designed for low dust, fast break-in and includes premium hardware. (noise insulated and powder coated backing) There chamfered and slotted like the OE pads. Oh, and did I mention the low price !

Rado dust free pads are awesome. Had it on my E63s where after a car wash, the wheels get dusty vs the Rado pads would last about 2 weeks before the wheels need to be cleaned and the stopping power is the same if not better. Craig@World Motorsport is great to work with. Highly recommended.

I love my new 2019 S63. I have owned S Class cars (this is my first S63) for almost 30 years with purchasing a new one every 3 to 6 years. Not sure why the seats would not be as comfortable as your S63--what year S63 do you have? My '19 S63 seats are the same seats that my '14 S550 4matic and my '16 S550 4matic had. The new 9 speed transmission is absolutely great! If you drove a dealer demo the transmission may need to be reset if you experienced rough shifts. Frankly my '16 S550 4matic had a few rough shifts from time to time but my '19 S63 has not had one rough shift. It is smooth as butter but if you have it in Sport or Sport+ you can feel the torque. The '19 S63 is the perfect car for me. Love the comfort of my previous S Class cars but when I want to turn this car into a sports car I can do it--this car is an absolute beast! Love it!
