The only car on the planet that has an uglier grill (for this price point/category) is the 2020 Genesis G90.
WTF were these designers thinking? Were they DRUNK?!

I also think the grille on the refreshed W221 was MB's best looking grille. The W222 grille to me is a tad too large and it doesn't have that lower pointed shape to it that I liked on the previous E class (2011 model for example) and the W221 after the refresh.

Agreed! And their sales are not doing well due to dealer network issues. Genesis however is a very well made car.

I was surprised to see this:
Genesis G90: The G90 had below-average reliability. Reported problems were transmission gasket leaks, failed throttle body, and warped rotors. A Genesis spokesman said that the automaker had seen very few claims from customers about the throttle body and transmission-leak problems, but it had seen more than 200 claims for problems involving the brake rotors.

At first, I didn't like the new grille on the 7 series either, but the more I look at it the more I like it. It gives the car a strong, masculine presence on the road, especially with the M-sport package. In my opinion, it makes the all-new Audi A8 already look dated and weak. I would definitely consider getting the updated 7. The one thing I don't like is how the entire grille is one piece. Instead of making the kidney grilles separate pieces they are connected with that chrome piece in the middle. It looks like a cost-cutting move and I don't like that.

I don't like it at all . Why would anyone design a car this continental sized massive grill ? It just looks plainly ugly . Headlamps looks dwarfed by the size of this enormous grill .I must say BMW badly botched up this flagship sedan .

I'm indeed sorry to see BMW going to the new grotesque oversized grills - a design style that seems popular in the far east. Since that is where sales are growing I'm guessing BMW is trying to please the market. Sad to see they don't have the confidence in their product's superior engineering and now resort to a "me too" style face. Of course style is subjective, but, I for one, think the 7 series refresh is a retrograde step and find it unattractive enough not to consider it when next I shop for a luxury sedan.
