Mercedes lithium-ion battery

Looking at a S63 amg and am told it has a lithium-ion battery which runs around $2400. Was told they last 10 years or so. Any info anyone has on these batteries would be appreciated.

Sorry, no help but price for the item made me jump into this thread lol .
I think I could buy a Longines for it and it would last much longer than 10 years

Welcome to 2019!

While the starter battery in the 2019 A8 is not li-ion, the 48V MHEV battery is, and runs $3200CAD.

Oh yay.

They claim that the lithium battery is cost effective...cost effective?....someone explain how $2400 to $3200 is cost effective; even it it last 10 years. I can squeeze at least 4 to 5 years out of a standard battery, and in most cases even more!

A gaggle of MB's
When AMG first developed this engine for the GT - they engineered the to use the Lithium Battery for (2) reasons - Lithium Battery has a better/smoother voltage output - longer life - and for the GT sport series Lithium is lighter weight.

On both Performance/Gas ultra-luxury auto's and electric auto's - Lithium is the best technology

From the GT - Lithium carried over into the S63's - note and if you will be only driving your S63 "infrequently" - since the systems inside the S63 do "draw" even when the S63 is locked - you might consider the MB trickle charger. There is a convenient outlet in the trunk for that charger hookup.

Thats nothing compared to the S400 Hybrid battery like 10 to 12k. Absolutely ridiculous.
