I had rear wheel steering on a GMC back in like 2004. Never understood why more cars do not have this? It does not look attractive at all but it gets the job done. Looking forward to seeing the W223 S Class.
BTW What ever happened to 4 wheel steering?

Honda did it many years ago. I remembered a friend saying, they finally figured out how to wear out all four tires at the same time! LOL I agree it is very cool and was great on the GMC especially maneuvering a trailer. I think it was just more maintenance and an upcharge people were not willing to pay. It may be coming back with better technology, Porsche has it in the 911.

Our 18 GTC has rear steering and dam it can do a u turn VERY tightly........

Manufacturers soon found out there was not enough demand/recognition for the cost.
Also easy way to take out cost for profit later.
Not a really customer focused return. tighter turning, better skid control and cornering but the improvement customers didn't want/need.
I had a Dodge Stealth with it. No big deal for my average driving,
More to wear and rust in the rear and alignments are hard enough already. Check the forum for S Class uneven tire wear.
Lots of complaints.
Still a really tight turning circle could be nice. Accident avoidance would be quicker. (swerve with autonomous steering)
If you buy new and often nice to have.
Also easy way to take out cost for profit later.

Mercedes-Benz has already been making good in turning circle department without having to equip its cars with gimmicky or expensive options as other manufacturers do but I think it would not harm even making an S Class more agile

The neat part about 4 wheel steering is high speed lane change stability as all 4 wheels can change in the same direction.
I was not a convert until I tried it on the A8L. The feeling, or lack thereof, of a lane change at 140kph is surreal.
