Spare Tire because...
General discussion, I would think the Spare Tire in the trunk reasoning would be more because of Damaged Rims than Flat tires.
How many of you have Non Extended mobility tires and have damaged a Rim, and what size tire are you running. How many had a Flat and no damage to the Rim. Based on most of the discussion on here, Damaged Rims Trumps a Flat. So tire repair kits / Extended Mobility Tires will not solve getting stranded with a damaged rim. |
I experienced a bent rim. Took me a few thousand miles to realize it was the problem. Took it to a rim repair shop, they heated it up and bent it back to specs. No problems since. BTW, just replaced all 4 tires after 36,000 miles!!! BF Goodrich tires are my favorite tires on this car. Quiet and smooth and not as expensive as Michelin. Just my personal experience and thoughts.

My car came with run flat tires but in my dad's I put floor jack, torque wrench , tire repair kit despite the car came with two spare tires out of the factory (one of which is small sized while the other is regular size ) .However, I think I would not dare it to replace the tires namely rear tires due to specific rear wheel arch design which is very difficult to take it out ..

I have replaced all 4 OEM rims - bent or cracked. Had one blow out as in instant 100% tire failure/separation. The rims did not strand me. The blowout did. Unless the car stays in the city, a spare is required. |
