2004 Chrysler Crossfire
I woke up my M113 500 engine!
Two years ago I installed an almost zero mile 500 engine in my Crossfire. The V8 in the little Crossfire is a beast and has been fun to drive. I started looking at some simple ways to improve the perfomance.:
1. I deleted the seconday CATS little improvement and a little more sporty growl.
2 switched from the CL500 engine cover/filter to a CLK55 (same as C43) egine cover and installed Accel Cool blue filters. power seemed a little on the top end. I also got rid the the screens in the MAF housing and got rid of the baffles in the elbow between the MAF housing and the Throttle body.
3. I installed n/a 55 cams yesterday. VERY noticable inmprovenent! Seems much stronger in the mid and upper rpm range. These are a drop in swap on a 500 engine but you must swap springs and retainers to do this to a 430. I have been told by three of the best sources on here that the 55 cams are a drop in swap. One of them (PTE) did suggest going to 55 springs for more peice of mind and especially if the motor has higher mileage. My engine now has 20K miles on it and I will change the springs probably this Spring. While some have not seen much improvement with cams on a 55, I believe the 55 cams in a 500 is huge. I did a base line dyno and will do another soon. but I can tell you it feels like a different car. Idle is smooth with just a little more sorty sound at the tail pipe at idle. Driving the car the engine has a real growl from about 3500 up. I was suprised that these cams changed the sound of my exhaust so much. I got this idea from reading about the C43 and how it made its power compared to the 430. seems like it mostly came down to cams. since the n/a 55 cams are designed for an engine with almost another 1/2 liter of displacement, putting them in a 500 engine would make them a bit more aggressive than what they were designed for. I am loving them!
I have never seen cam specs for the 500 and 43 engine, but I did measure the lift with of the stock 500 cams with precision caliper and can tell you they follow the design of the 430 cams but have just slightly more lift. the n/a 55 cams have more lift than any OEM cam for the 113 engine.
I will post the dyno results when I get a chance, but I can tell you the simple and inexpensive mods I did are very noticeable.

I posted the specs on a set of S430 cams a while back

I could be wrong but I think the earlier 55 n/a cars did not have the upgraded springs. I think they got the better springs in 2003. This was just from talking to a few people who have had these engines torn apart. Regardless it is probably a good idea to swap them out. I also seem to recall Brandon at Kleemann saying the 55 cam swap would add 7-10 HP in the 430. This was 5-6 years ago.

Good swap, I've heard from a few sources that it helps the top end. I also did cams, they added about 150hp to the car... Well, maybe the supercharger had something to do with it too
Looking forward to the before/after dyno sheets!

No I never got it dyno'd but I was very happy with the swap. Prior to the swap, the car pulled very hard in the lower RPM's but ran out of breath in the top end. After the swap the power band seemed to move up the RPM range and pulled very hard in the top end.

I saw a crossfire for the first time in years on the jersey turnpike today.
Knowing how yours is modded I drove by it gingerly.
