Something I haven't seen, though there aren't many R-classes around here.

Debadging is mostly done to avoid the embarassment that accompanies having bought the little engine instead of the big one.

Doesn't seem such an issue in the USA plus what's the matter with a 4Matic badge?

Every ones opinion is respected.
However, for me, MY 06 R did not come with the 4matic badge. I made sure the dealer install it for me. I paid extra for 4matic and I wanted to advertise it!!

I guess non MB owners could care less what your HP is -

and anyone who does care, knows enough about luxury car naming that when they see the badge removed, they know you had the badging removed and probably why.

i think unless you have an AMG, debadging looks really good / super clean. but then again i have a C230, so i have nothing to brag about (except that mommy and daddy didnt pay a cent towards it).

but i still think i would take the badges off anything but an AMG just bc i like how clean it looks. its all personal preference and i just prefer having it look clean and different from 97% of the other C230's driving around with factory badges.

you know what kind of car you have, why does everyone else need to know too?

I debadged all my vehicles (except for those with pins in back of emblem (found out a hard way on my Mazda MPV)). You know what you have, why need to show the world.

In that case, why didn't you take the benz emblem off?

I didn't know that. I always thought the mercedes star in the back is glued on.

I agree. I wish I could have removed all the brand emblems from my cars. I prefer a clean look. I debadged our Honda Element too. I paid for the car, why do i need to advertise for the company too?

I cringe when I remember all the goofy advertising manufacturers put on cars. I remember big "Twin Cam" stickers on the rocker panels of some cars in the 80's or 90's. I still see old cars with "5 Speed" on the trunk lid. Subaru is currently the worst with badging "PZEV" on the trunks amongst a bunch of other clutter. Stabilitrac, Instatrac, Real Time, etc... who really cares what type of AWD system my SUV has? 99.9% of the people tailgating me have no idea what any of it means anyway. I'm "into" cars and have no idea either.

My old C-class had "Kompressor" on the hatch which lasted exactly one day after taking delivery. It ran almost 1/3 of the way across the back of the car. No thanks.

Thought so too until I took it off ... then I found out that the pins are there to line up the star. Oh, most all vehicles have pins behind their marques.

Surprise that the rest of the letterings don't have pins.

theres actually an option that you can get the car without badges from MB. I do a few everyday that way on the assembly line, no option- no hardmarks. Ill get the option code if someone wants it. I did a R320 BLUETEC last night without hardmarks.

Is it probably this code?
840 elimination of all-wheel drive 4 x 2 (for cross-country vehicles only)
dark tinted glass (с 01.10.1994)

And some off topic. I'm actually looking for R500 and owner of one said it's 2WD and thus having better MPG. I was because I thought all of R's are 4matic always (why to create that great car and then just put 2WD on it...). This particular car has that option listed, so now I'm wondering is it really 2WD or does this option just mean the badge has been eliminated. I checked under the car and I can see both front and rear drive shafts so I thought definitely it's AWD.

If there is 2WD available how can I really say if the car is 2WD or AWD (as for that one car owner said it's 2WD but underneath the car I can see all 4 drive shafts)?

Most of the R300s are 2wd and I dont think I done one thats going to China thats ever been a 4matic. The 2wd cars only have the hardmarks on the left side of the liftgate so that may be the option for that, theres an option code for no hardmarks Ill have to get that one. It used to be 060 I think but I think theyve changed it.
