Service Bulletin List

Is there a list of R-CLass service bulletins listed anywhere?

I'd like to have it in my back pocket the next time I speak to my SA!

Thanks AsianR350 for the TSB and SB list. My 2007 R class is within 5000 miles of the end of the factory warranty and I reviewed the bulletins carefully for anything that was relevant to my vehicle. I found a couple items that my dealership SA confirmed were applicable and have scheduled a service appointment to have them done. Reviewing this list is something that every R Class owner should do to make sure that the dealership doesn't miss anything and also to have these issues taken care of before the warranty expires (while it is still on Mercedes' dime and not yours). Thanks Again!

Of course the question is, Why didn't the SA catch this himself? I think I know the possible answer. While my R Class was in for a minor warranty repair at the dealership recently I spoke with one of the mechanics. He told me that business was so slow that they frequently have few or no cars in the service drive in the morning which has hit his paycheck hard. The result is that they are losing mechanics (and let's face it, it is the good ones that can get jobs elsewhere that are most likely to leave) with the less proficient and experienced left behind.

Thanks a lot!!

Thanks a lot for sharing!!

If I find any item that is found to be not repaired how can I convince the dealer to repair per the TSB? Does the car have to have the problem for the item to be repaired even if it is listed in TSB? If the car does nothave problem can the dealer deny the repair even though it is listed in TSB?

Complain about it, make sure it's recorded in their system.
Then you have something to stand on.

New bulletins are issued all the time.

Best approach is to periodically buy the $18/24 hours subscription at http://www.startekinfo.com and check.

While you're at it and if you have the patience, you can download the equivalent of an entire service manual for your car.

They are called DTB (dealer technical bulletin) and not TSB.

They aren't always applicable to all vehicles and there will be a VIN number range for applicability in those instances.

Otherwise, if you complain, they have to do it. Even if there's no VIN number limit, not all of these problems occur all the time, so yes, it's on your complaint that the service is performed. It's an honor system, that is, and it would be pretty silly to ask something fixed that isn't currently malfunctioning, as they can tell--it's not a "preventive maintenance" or "proactive maintenance" program.

It's free while still under warranty, your dime afterwards.

Frankly, it's only courteous to be a customer that actually pays for things on occcasion, too, e.g. your periodic Service A and Service B. This because I think it's human nature to argue more with freeloaders than with paying customers.

Manufacturers know fairly quickly when they have a poor design and performance issues of any magnitude. "Service Bulletins" are not a one in a million occurrance; if it happens in one unit, than it can happen in all.

If a consumer does the history research into a certain model, for example, and observes a reoccurring problem and reports it, the manufacturer should be obligated to replace / repair; without question whether or not any symptoms are apparent!

No guess work involved.

I report issues under warranty and eventually all issues are rectified under warranty by whatever dealer.

If you prefer to pay out-of-pocket after your warranty is expired, that's your business.
