THINGS I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT MY R CLASS

just thought I would start a thread about things I found out by accident since owning the R.....please feel free to add

1. if u have automatic wipers, the rear ones go on when backing out of a spot in incliment weather
2. if you press and hold the recirculating button of the ac, all the windows including pano roof will close automaticaly.
3. Holding the unlock/lock button from the smat key will open or close all windows.
4. pressing the windshield washer 5x consecutively will activate headlamp washers

Neat!

when a brake light goes out, there is a reserve light for both sides.

Interestingly this does not work on my 2006 R500. It does however work on my 08 ML350. It must be a feature they added later.

If you unlock the car with the remote and stand in the parking lot talking to someone without opening a door, the car will relock in about a minute or so.

It does this whether you do it 5 times at once or 5 times over a month.

.

Doesn't seem to work on my 2010 either.

chopper2002 09-15-2011 04:39 PM

It works on my 2009 R500

rosswell 10-07-2011 11:14 PM

The first 3 work on my '06 no problem. R350. I don't have xenons so no headlamp washers.

RAINX will solve the vibrating wiper problem that everyone has, instead of wasting $$ on a new set every few mos. or so

6. The car auto levels itself ( raises or lowers ) when loading or unloading
7. On a red light on a steep incline the cars doesn't roll back for a few seconds after releasing the brake.
8. pressing on the red tab on the hood lifters (whatever you call those) will allow you to open it up to almost vertical position.
:topic:so far this is the best family hauler IMO

gforaker 10-17-2011 11:17 AM

I bought the car more for hauling ability rather than less frequent 6 passengers. I typically transport big loads of sails and gear back and forth to the boat and even a 6 ft step ladder for when the boat is hauled.

I loaded 2 upholstered easy chairs over the weekend (one was a recliner) and found out that some items which can not quite fit into the back through the rear hatch can more easily fit into the back through an open side door. (Of course, with the seats all folded down.) The rear hatch is much smaller than the interior space, but the side opening is larger or at least taller.

Pushing the a/c recirc button after the engine is off will keep the cabin heated as long as there is heat and a good battery.
You can orient the map/nav unit north up or in the direction your heading

Whenever you get a new MB something consmetic gets damaged within a week...
Yesterday left foglight got smashed somehow :-(

How are you enjoying the R? I see you're from Mtl. I'm in Laval. I got the Mrs R new as a lease which is coming up in Feb 2012. I am debating to buy it or just lease a new one.

You'll enjoy this car in the snow or on very long hauls. It's just fantastic.

Cheers

I was eyeing one for a few years. Finally decided on a used R lease for business instead of a new minivan. Love it so far! Figure the wife will have it when the lease runs out. My C240 does not have as spec of rust on it yet so I figure the R320 will last many years.

It's big and fast and comfortable and has all the bells and whistles I and the family want. Kids call it Uberawesome! So do I! Look forward to driving it in snow! Fingers crossed on reliability.

How many miles on yours? I shoulda waited and got yours off lease! Too late!

I've got ~72k. My 6 & 9 yr olds freaked on us when their mom came home with a brand new GLK loaner since the R was in the shop for regular maintenance. It's been a GREAT family hauler, that has it all; class, distinct styling, roominess, power and economy. Reliability has been adequate. It was in for a couple of things, like a dead fan AC/heater fan in the first week of ownership, a fallen sideview mirror (just the mirror part).

Cheers

I am a bit surprised it gets only 10 l/100km on long highway stretches at 120... I was expecting better according to other posts here and other forums

Summer of 2009, we spent a couple of weeks in Myrtle Beach. We decided on a whim to extend our vacation for another week and drove down to Miami. I was averaging 140km/hr and our fuel consumption was 9.9 l/100km. Please note that this is a very heavy vehicle. Last Friday, I drove to Ottawa and back and was doing 140 km/hr and the consumption on my Subaru Sti which weighs half as much as the r320 was 13.6l/100km. So, your consumption is not bad when u put things in perspective.

Cheers

It's a MY09, first plated Nov. 2008.

I guess we've gone OFF TOPIC on this thread. anyway just an update,
-The new 3.5 motor feels like a V8 while getting more MPG's
- the 2012 doesn't have the active curve bi xenons offered on the previous models.
- the airmativc on the 2012 seems to raise and lower the whole car instead of just the rear....at least that's what it feels like:nix:
- the new navigation system tell you current traffic conditions:y
-and lastly, the optional AMG rims look BAAADAAA$$$!!! on the R

That is pretty much the same as with my 2010. When I see an R Class without the AMG wheels I really notice the difference and appreciate mine.

The traffic info on the NAV is nice, but wait until you see the subscription price after your free trial. It is WAY overpriced especially when you compare it to similar functions available for free or a very low price on iPhones or Android phones.
