Greetings - Haven't posted in awhile and for that I do apologize, but my R350 really has been trouble free since I bought her used in 2012. She's a 2008 model rwd.

Anyway, a driver in a 2015 QX80 backed into my driver side left rear door a couple weeks ago (R350 was parked and unoccupied) and caused some serious damage (thankfully) to just the door only. Been driving it normally the last couple of weeks until the body shop had the replacement door sourced and it was installed and painted this last couple of days.

However, now I'm getting an 'SRS Malfunction - Take to Dealer' notification on the dash. To be clear, I wasn't getting this message with the original and busted up door.

Outside of taking the car to the dealership so they can diagnose it, is there anything else I can do?

Is it possible that the replacement door had some code stored in it that would trigger the SRS light? There isn't an airbag in the rear doors, so maybe it's just a coincidence that the light appeared after the repairs, perhaps?

My wild guess is the body shop that did the repair knocked a wire loose. Either from an impact sensor or going to one of the air bags. Either would trigger that fault.

I would contact them to repair it.

Took a few years of procrastination but finally took a look - pulled off the door panel and lo and behold, the SRS sensor was not plugged in. Plugged it in, and the dash SRS error went away. I post this up because I thought even if you plug the SRS cable back in, you'll still have the fault because you have to reset that component with some dealer software, but for those that may have fallen into a similar issue..

You do not need to have the SRS light reset after you plug this sensor back in. I can't speak for any other SRS sensors or airbags that may have been unplugged and plugged in, but this works for the rear doors.

except that all the time that the SRS light was on you probably did not have any SRS protection! You do not want air bags going off ***** nilly because there is a faulty contact somewhere.
