S-Class Coupe VERT Discontinued??
Saw a hint to that in a car magazine this month. Stated that the E class may be the one that remains. Hope it's not the case. Anyone hear/read the same?

Haven't seen anything and iy's beyond unlikely. All cabs have just been introduced and are inherently low volume products.

I think he means ConVERTible or Cabriolet. Sales have been much much less than expected with more than 150 unsold 2017 S63 Cabs remaining in the US Inventory not counting the S550s despite large fleet discounts and cash back to dealers offered on the cars most probably due to the Bentley range pricing (MBFS lease for the S63 Cabriolet is over $3500 per month), So I would not be surprised if canceled.

Well, there are already videos and pictures of facelifted but camouflaged 2019 S63 convertible with new panamericana grills and new bumpers and tail lights being driven around ...

That said, caranddriver had reported that they are going to make the next SL a 2+2 convertible so as to differentiate it from the AMG GT convertibles, so I guess that makes the S class convertible a little redundant on the high end, and they are not big sellers anyway, thus could be discontinued, no next generation ......

16 E550 Cab, 2003 Ram bright red crewcab 4x4 we call Clifford :)
All I know is I was disappointed by the S class cab. It's certainly upscale from our E550 but I also wanted bigger as In I could put 4 adults in it....
Our E class is ok for 4 people but you can't do any real distance....
If it where bigger I would trade the E in.... but alas....

Either way, there is a lot of worthless info on the net.
First, there is no overlap of the SL and AMG GT roadster other than 2 seats. Completely different target audience.
The SL will not become a 2+2...
The S-class cab has zero overlap with the SL or the AMG Gt either.
As to big sellers, the S-Class coupes/cabs were not expected to be big sellers at conception. They are part of brand positioning and even to some extend tools to sell its lower-end models.

August Car and Driver Page 21:
"But we hear Daimler will abandon the latter (S Class coupe) and, as BMW is doing with the 6-***-8, take the next E-class coupe up market. The two might learn the same lesson at the same time: Get the price and package right, and you can call your big coupe whatever you want."
Maybe, maybe not.

I hope not. Even though it's not a big seller, MB's big coupe has always been their flagship car and I would hate to see it replaced by an upgraded E-Class coupe just to sell more of them. There is something to say about exclusivity.

The 6 series is based on the 5 series and equals the E-class, albeit with a significant markup.
They realized that if they build a low volume coupe, they might as well charge a lot more and take it upmarket. That, btw. Is not my assumption but was stated by BMW.
Higher-end coupes are low volume models and have been for the last 50 years. That was the case with the CL's and the SLC's before that.
MB would keep that car in production even if they loose their shirt on it.
It is widely regarded as one of the best looking Mercedes models and the only car that is being compared to Bentleys etc. (in their better trim levels).

The S Cabriolet is barely big enough for me. I hope they lengthen it a meter or so to give it more rear seat and trunk space.
I'm going to IAA Cars in September where I hope to see the 2018 S Cabriolet and will place my order for European Delivery as soon as the order books open.
No way they'd turn the SL into a 2+2.

There are reports that the next S-Class (2020 reveal) won't have a replacement for the S Coupe or Cabrio. That's all it is at this point, rumors. With the S Cabrio, Coupe, SL and AMG GT, they might have to get rid of something, but who knows. It's all speculation.
The S Cabrio is not going to get longer at the facelift.

2 door models follow with a 1 year delay to the sedan.
