Early "Face Lift" for S Coupe & Cabriolet!

This just out, regarding the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show:

The Mercedes-Benz debuts range from the all-electric EQ-A, which is derived from the new A-class platform codenamed MFA2, to the wild Project 1 AMG hypercar that blends an actual Mercedes F1 hybrid powertrain with additional e-motors to deliver a combined output of more than 1000hp. Also on the agenda are a smart concept, a fuel-cell-equipped GLC, and an early facelift for both two-door S-class models.

Thanks.
The 2018's coupes and cabs will start production in early 2018 and will offer the same types of tweaks the W222's received.

Actually, as interesting as this news is, I feel bad for the folks who bought the early cars, especially the cab, which will be what, a one year only edition? MB ought to be handing out some hefty rebates to those folks--but I know they won't. I could even see an attorney making a good case for a class action against MB. The buyers had good reason to believe that their cars would remain "current" models for at least three years, but now, they will be driving the "old" model, after just one year. Not right.

+1 The cab folks that paid cash will particularly not be happy.

There is some good news for the 2017's however; they all received the wonderful 9G trans.

This will be a MY19' not an 18. This puts it on the same schedule as the sedan.

But it is true, cab buyers will hurt as that car was introduced mid-cycle.

I understand production starts early next year for the new coupe/cabs, are you saying they'll be 19's?

For practical purposes it would make no sense to make it a MY18 launched towards the end of the model cycle.

Let's assume a May intro into the country, that could only be an early MY19 intro, something that MB has done before...

Don't feel bad for me. I'm very excited to be able to upgrade my 2017 Cab with the new electronics and transmission when the new model releases. I'm beyond excited that they'll be fixing the only deficiency that the current model has (the 7 MCT) so soon after releasing it. It'll be a full two years between my two EDP trips to pick them up. Just 15 days until I see the new beauty in person in Frankfurt!

Depreciation is brutal in these kinds of cars...do you own or lease?

As someone that opted to wait for the '18s, largely for Apple Car Play and other updated telematics, I'm sympathetic to those that bought the 2017s. That said, I think you're crazy to assert some broken vow by MB. It's nonsensical to think there is ANY legal grounds for a lawsuit and that they owe some sort of rebate to 2017 owners or have some crazy obligation to do nothing to the cars for "at least three years." What are you smoking to come up with this?
They have every right to do modify cars whenever they wish. So if they modify in 2019 (possibly as a 2020 model) after I get mine, I plan to just suck it up.

The '17 MY for the coupes and cab's may be a prolonged one, extending until +/- Feb of next year potentially eliminating the '18 MY for coupes and cabs...that might help take a bit of the sting out.

My US spec MY17 Edition 130 was produced in 4/2016 so if the 2018 (MY 2019) starts production in 2/18 then I doubt the US spec cars would be approved and produced before late April or May 2018 which would be almost 2 years exactly. This also makes the 2017 cab and especially the edition 130 even more unique as a 1 MY production car with the last monster 5.5 L M157 engine and will be even more special if MB decides to axe the S-Cabriotet altogether with the C218 in 2021 (MY2022)

It appears the first new coupes/cabs will be here in May for the US.

They can call it a 2019 or a 2020, I don't care. If I bought a 2017--especially a cab, at anything even remotely close to MSRP, I'd be royally pissed off. Something tells me, that loyal MB customers who find themselves in such a situation, will find MB quite accommodating, IF they express their utter disappointment with their dealer. I, myself, would be raising holy hell!

Most likely the facelifted coupes will be early release 2019 models in the US since the coupes traditionally lag the sedans by one model year. Since the coupes were introduced in 2015 and I just bought my '17 for a big discount I'm okay with the short 4 year life cycle since I usually only keep a car 2 or 3 years. Will definitely be keeping my eye on the new BMW 8 series.

Those cars already depreciate horribly, the shorter time period because the cab came out 2 years after the regular coupe isn't gonna change much.

Thanks for the video Gojirra
Based on the video the only exterior design that changed for the regular Coupe and Cab were the taillights. I hesitate to call this a "Face lift" at all.
