Unhappy End of the line?

From what I've been told the 2019MY will be the last for the S coupes and cabs...too bad. Anyone heard anything to the contrary? I've got to imagine this is not going to be very good for resale values.

Cross posting on w222 forum due to the very low activity here.

AMG GTS, Ford Raptor and Tesla Model 3 dual motor
With the limited number in existence should they cease producing the coupes and cabs it should not hurt the resale value if anything it should increase based on the limited numbers

Absolutely no chance. It is their flagship vehicle. Every C and E now looks like an S and everybody thinks they can buy a C and say they have an S. So they are never going to kill it as long as we are stupid enough to buy one.

Apparently it is dead after this MY and the new SL will be a true 2+2 taking over dual roles...unfortunately I dont think the end of life will be good for resale of these cars...too many produced to date ww and not rare by any means. Longer discussion and renderings here: https://mbworld.org/forums/new-s-cla...-end-line.html

No, that is not true. They will also have a flagship coupe. They have been in existence since MB itself. There will most likely be another face lift in 2023. As for stopping production, never!

I hope it is not true. As an owner of a 2018 E coupe, which is by far the best car I have ever owned, I aspire to get into a S coupe in the future. I would be concerned about the iconic SL becoming a 2+2.

The SL will become a 4 seater, as it’s sales are dismal. At one time the SL was the bread and butter for the Mercedes line but ever since the 2013 model, it’s dead in the water. Looks like nothing has been able to revive that disaster. If you think your E is the best car you have ever owned, your in for the treat of a lifetime in an S Coupe in any form. Just make sure you get the Designo interior, the base interior isn’t very nice.

In my opinion, the SL sales are dismal because it’s an awful driving car. My wife had an SL 550 and it was the worst driving car we have ever had. Absolutely no balance to the car. Felt like you were driving a 1930s Chris-Craft speed boat with a huge nose and wallowing around turns. Also very awkward to get in and out of. If you’re going to go the sports car route then the AMGGT is the better car and I am sure it is eating SL sales.

Also had an E 55. The E’s are very nice cars, they do have great balance, handle well and have good power. The S’s just take everything to the next level.

The current Sl's haven't sold to well mostly imho because it's not a real looker...
The word is no S coupe or Cab after MY19 and the SL will be a 2+2, even the renderings although early, are all showing it as a 2+2...MB has taken notice of how well Maseratti did with their 2+2 cabs.

The SL will turn into a 2+2 soft top in only AMG variants (43, 53, 63, and maybe someday 73).
The next S Cabriolet will come from the Vision 6.

I had a couple SL's. It really is not a sports car by any means. More like a cruiser. It is large and soft.

Anything has got to be better than the current S Cabriolet. None of the proportions make any sense. It was styled as a Coupe and that’s how it should have stayed. I live where they sell ultra high end convertibles like Pez dispensers and I’ve only seen 1 on the road. Every corner is a Bentley GTC. They missed the mark on the S Cabriolet and the 560, a gilded Lilly if ever there was one. As my father used to say when there was just too much going on to cover a bad design, “All it needs is a foxtail hanging from the rear view mirror”

At the AMG Driving Academy, my favorite car around the racetrack wasn’t the GT S, the C63S,the CLA, or the E63S. It was the SL63.

Are you saying there will be two types of SL's...2+2 amg only and 2 seater non amg?
Thanks

No. Just a 2+2 AMG with various drivetrains.

Wow, no more regular/non-amg SL's...how certain are you of this?

All I should say it was a MBUSA AMG employee who told me. Though it wasn’t off the record...

What do you mean they've taken notice of how well Maser has done? The ancient Granturismo?

Just returned from my dealership ordering a 19 S-coupe. Sales confirmed what has been said in this thread. 2019 is the last year for the S-coupe and CAB. M-B isn't even printing brochures for those models. It is indeed the end of the line. They also confirmed the SL will be a 2+2 next year. We shall see what we shall see!!!

My dealer has been telling me the same thing...I think the 18-19's 560/63's will be the best of the big MB S 217 coupes/cabs...congrats

I had my dealer reach out to his contact in Germany, and was told there will be a 2020 S Coupe (assume Cabriolet too, but I don't ask about that). There will be no substantive changes to the MY18/19 models, as expected since the major refresh occurred for MY2018.

I will hold off ordering for now, although I sent my preferred spec so if a matching 2019 (or pre-owned 2018) comes across he will let me know.

I guess we will find out for sure in a few months.

Exactly as I posted above, it will carry into 2022-2023 before a new body change. The cab will also continue since they don’t order parts for these cars until needed. Dye’s and stamps are already made, it doesn’t cost them anything to build special order cars and a few for bigger dealership lots. S Class coupes/CL’s will always be in production, as long as Mercedes is in business.

Very surprised MB in Germany is factually confirming future models a year out with US dealers and letting them disclose it to the public? I will pass this info on to mine and see what they have to say. i am glad the coupes will continue as i liked both of mine.

If you think about it logically, why would they ever stop making an S/CL/SEC flagship coupe???? It’s what they are known for. The reason GM and Ford stopped was because they make to many at a time and have to much supply on hand. MB do more of the’ “ make when needed” approach. When do you really ever see an old Coupe just waiting to sell after a new year model has been introduced? Very seldom if ever and you don’t usually see a lot on their lots at once. They would rather shift stock from already built inventory. They are doing what Lexus has done for years, Keep supply low and demand high. Unlike GM or Ford, who were tying up huge amounts of money in built inventory. Hell, they are still selling 2018 models on sale. We are 4 months into the 2019 sales year. MB and Lexus has is figured out. MB sells everything even the horrific SL.
