Considering a1986 sel 420 as a daily drive

Hello my name isElizabeth and I’m from Boson. I have never owned a Mercedes. The 1986 sel 420 has 69,000 miles. I was told it sat for 9 years in a garage and the last 6 months outside. One of my many concerns is length of time it has sat and how the rear wheel drive is in the snow. If I put snow tires and weight in the back will it be ok in New England. Thanks for any thoughts or recommendations

I think I’m better going to a dealership and getting a newer car but it was tempting because it only has 68,000 miles he has the service record up until 2010 when the owner died and it sat in her sons garage. He was only asking 4500 and said he was going thru the car replaced the brakes struts? Has given it 2 oil changes and was emptying the fuel tank to get rid of bad fuel. The back story I have a 2011 Nissan Murano with a blown transmission and I went to him for an estimate he said don’t replace it trade it in. We got to talking about cars and he said don’t buy a Mercedes made in the 90’s the older one have better engines. He then said I’m working on one now I said can I see it he said sure. I may be being fooled but he told me what he paid for it and what he’s done to it. The rubber on the doors was pristine. I know that’s not an indication of the other rubber on the car. My thought was I’m going to sink 4200 into a new transmission why not sink 4500 into this and roll the dice because either way I’m rolling the dice. I’m trying not to buy a new car because I have a child going to college next year. I said to this guy could I come back to you to do any work he said absolutely. I realize the multiple issues a car can have for sitting but I feel like this guy was honest . He wasn’t trying to sell it and I asked to buy it he seems like he is being upfront but again no idea what may happen when I get it hone. I appreciate the advice I’ll keep you posted

THat age MB will be expensive to maintain and service...
Oil changes brakes normal wear items.... figure double or more then your Murano bills.
