what does RS dash warning light mean??
Greetings to all MB friends from suNNy Florida!!
Just this evening on my 1985 500SEC, an RS (RED SQUARE) warning light came on the lower right side of the dash next to the ABS orange light and has not gone off. Does anyone know what this means? I searched my owners manual and not listed.undefined |
This is a fault lamp for the Restraint System, a precursor to SRS. The RS only has seat belt tensioners. You should have the fault codes read at the dealership or independent shop with the special airbag test box.

Your '85 500SEC must be Euro Spec...
I had that light on in my '84 Euro 500SEL, but after I pulled the instrument cluster to rebuild the dash rheostat, the light disappeared! :nix: |
Braverichard, I have an '84 500SEL and have the light too. Any idea if that means it's an Euro model? There's a recent thread on here in trying to tell the differences between U.S. and Euro but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on what to look for to differentiate either.

I just posted a response to that thread and indeed, the VIN does tell us something... go and read that thread again for my response.
Otherwise, if your '84 500SEL has that light then it is probably a Euro Spec car, as the US Spec cars had the SRS light instead. I'm not very sure of this as I base my assumption on an '85 US Spec 500SEL, but since your '85 500SEC has the RS instead of SRS light, my assumption makes sense. |
