Help - I need brake advice!!!
I bot a 1999 S500 in Jan. The car is in excellent condition except one thing - The brakes squeak really really bad when I go into reverse. I'm really frustrated with this and its embarrassing when I'm parking. I took the car for inspection at a local independent MBZ mechanic and was told that the pads and rotors are in good shape and that the squeaking was normal because of the metal MBZ used for the rotors that year. Is this true? What should I do? Replace the rotors/pads? If so, any suggestions for a good replacement?

From memory there is some kind of coating that you should put on either the pads and the rotors when they are installed to stop this, perhaps consult another mechanic or a brake shop, sorry I can't be of more help.

Brake Quiet, Synthetic Brake Grease, or Stop Squeal
If I understand what you were describing correctly. Any of these products can be found at your local parts store.
Read the instructions VERY CAREFULLY!
It should be applied to the rear of the pads that come in contact with the calipers/pistons NOT the rotors!
The squeal you hear is actually the pads vibrating against the pistons and calipers. These products act as a buffer to stop or muffle the vibration.

Not to sound dumb but what are, "Any of these products can be found at your local parts store."? I don't know what to ask for.
I have a 1999 S420 and my brakes squeal badly at very slow speeds, like right before the car comes to a complete stop. I get the nastiest looks from other drivers but more importantly, it bothers me. My Mech has already checked it out and say my pads and rotors are in great shape, no need to replace or service either. Other than this and a vacuum assist trunk issue, the car is in very good shape but I can't even enjoy the Sunday drive to church because of this. What a shame.
Thanks in advance.
