94 S500 problem that dealership cannot solve

i have a 94 S500 with around 200,000 miles on it. The problem the car is having is that the other day i drove it basically the entire day off and on and during the evening when i tried to accelerate the rpms dropped and then the engine eventually died. I let the car sit on the side for maybe an hour and then started again but, as soon as i placed it in drive the engine bogged down and died again. that's when i had the car towed to the mercedes benz dealership and it has been there for two days. they are unable to diagnose a problem. within the last 3 years this has happened to me on three different occasions but, with the same scenario (lots of driving on and off in a day, warm weather). no check engine lights or faulty lights prior to it happening. last year i got the thermostat and radiator changed also transmission flush. i have always changed oil routinely every 3000 miles.

any ideas? thanks in advance.

Sounds...like the control chip is placing it in limp along mode ---- something might be sending a msg that it's about to go very wrong - I drove through hard rain and almost flooding conditions....the wetness gave me the same mode....

When I was on my way to Las Vegas last year, my s320 quit on the freeway at 80 mph, no warning? Rolled to side of freeway restarted no problem. 4hr. later same thing??
Continued to Vegas 1000 miles no problem. Drove home 2000 miles no problem.

Wife and her twin sister drove to a ladys party, on way home engine quit in the "Bad" part of town. Drug addicts and hookers pushed the car arround the corner???. Wife called me.
While wife is waiting my arrival, a high speed police chase rounds the corner, armed robber crashes into car, three spaces in front of our car.
When I arrive robber is in custody.
Attempt to start car, runs for a couple of seconds and qiuts. Tow car to independant garage. Next morning car is ready to go with new fuel pump.
