quick spool valve
Couldn't control myself. This frickin project is taking so long what's a few more weeks. bought this, cutting off top of header, welding this thing on, supposedly gives you crazy spool and way more drivability. We shall see.

Almost there! Quick spool valve cut into header, a few minor adjustments and everything should line up. Here, we are off by just a hair:

recoated to encompass quick spool valve. in this pic the actuator is removed while coating.
I know, I know, this is taking forever. I just bought a little E36 M3 I wanted to get on the road for track season, but after finishing it found an insanely overbuilt 944T (475 rwhp!!!) that I needed to have, so am in the process of flipping the M3 at a loss. The Benz is up next!

Unfortunately, it got very close and then my mechanic ran into a few issues and it got back burnered. I intend to finish it at some point; right now it’s not his first priority, which I understand. Not happy about, but understand given the circumstance. I will post when it’s complete.

any updates? I was hoping to see your 140 roll coal before 2020. I am in the process of resurrecting an 040 rodbender 140 just like yours. I'm going the easy route and just swapping a 3.0 603 originally from an 87 SDL that i had in my 91 SDL that will be going in my 93 300sd. One motor three chassis! My 3.5 turbo was seized and i was looking at some bolt-on DPUK kits to eek a little more power out of the 3.0, then i found THIS THREAD. I was just thinking to myself I should be doing a 606 swap. I'm glad you confirmed the 603 motor mounts worked without modification and the trans mount was easy. It sounds like the big custom parts are intercooler mounting/plumbing and of course the exhaust header. Any plans to sell the header? I know youve gone through like 500 welders. Do you have the specs on it as it sits now? What would it cost to make another one? Thanks and keep up the good work!

Zax63,
I just came across your project. It looks like it is going to be quite a car when you get it finished. I did a quick read through, at this point I'm not 100% sure how you handled your intercooler piping.
I have a 94 S350. About ten years ago I put a 606 engine into it. I put the injection pump from the original engine onto the new 606 engine, I had to change the oil pan as you did. I also had to fabricate my own throttle cable mount so that it would operate properly. I was told that some W140 cars, in Europe, had the 606 engine installed. So I tracked down the part numbers for the original MB intercooler pipes for that W140/606 car. My wife was visiting her family in France, so she brought back the left and right Mercedes pipes. (these pipes can not be purchased in the USA) It was an easy fit to an aftermarket intercooler that fit behind the front bumper.
I offer this information so that some of your followers may benefit from my build.
I can't wait to see your completed project, good luck.

Sorry for my delay in getting back to you...I have had a few other projects going, notably a 944 Turbo Race car and also a street version of the same car; blown motor on the 944 after I took the street one to the track when the wastegate stuck closed was taking a bit of my time and resources. Couple that with my Benz guy going through a rough spot delayed project OM606. It’s just getting rolling again, I think we dabbed up all the intercooler piping already but I shall check. Thanks for the recommendation!

Mercedes intercooler part numbers
The passenger side pipe number is: A140 528 03 00.
The driver side is: A140 528 02 08. This last digit may be a 3, it was really hard to read. The viewing angle was pretty rough.

One of my favorite forums. I miss my '92 300SD. She met her demise, at over 300K mile due to a lousy shop. Hit a couple others to no avail. Dealer independent. Now I wait for this one to hit the road. I may like her more than the owner. LOL
