W140 S500L - misfires / shakes / exxcesive fuel consumption

Dear W140 fans,

Maybe someone met that before on the M119 and will be able to save me some time.

At some point the engine started to devour crazy ammounts of fuel. The consumption indicator on the dash went all the way to the max, stays there, and the nose wont fool You - sh**load of unburned fuel vapour coming out of the exhaust.

In addition not too much time later the engine started acting funny. Misfires, shakes, idle revs are unstable, gear change for R or D can actually stop the engine - it's quite obvious that quite a few cylinders are not working.

First thing - I've worked with ignition system. After finding that the insides of distributor heads were cracked with lightning-like paths made by high voltage I've replaced pretty much everything - coil, distributor heads, distributor cams, wires, spark plugs, etc. as it Was time for it anyway.

Nothing. Although the engine starts way better, and ignitions seem "smoother" I'm still dealing with extreme fuel consumption and misfires, shakes.

Next step will be injectors check-up.

Any advice?

Did you check the timing chain? Sounds like your car is out of timing specs...
