car would not start

my wife took my '00 s500 shopping today. as i was taking a nap before going to work, she calls and tells me that the car would not start. she calls the MB emergency road side assistance and by telephone, they say that it might be the key. they tell her to clean the key and the slot that it goes into but still no joy. i get to the location where my wife is as the tow truck is pulling up. i put my key in and still no start. then the tow truck driver says, is the battery charged and i say of course. my wife goes in one more time and uses her key and it starts right away. what can be the problem? we drove it in to the dealership at autobahn in redwood city to see if they can figure it out but with it starting, i think they will just say that they were not able to duplicate the problem. the car has 99,875 miles on it and is just shy of the 100,000 mile warrantee. i dont want to bring it home until the problem is solved but if they canr duplicate it, then what do i do?

thanks,
angel

they (@MB) will read out the fault memory and should be able to locate the culprit.

It could also be the batteries in both keys. If those batteries were replaced together at the same time, they will more than lokely go out at the same time. Try changing both and see if that helps. Also let the dealer run diagnostics.

ok, the dealer said it was the crank postition sensor. i will have it replaced as it is still under warrantee. man, he said that thing was 500 dollars. that is hard to believe. maybe he meant it as labor along with the CPS.
